Katherine Mabbins Keitt

In His own way and for His own divine purpose, God called Katherine home on Monday, February 22, 2010.  Angels descended from heaven to give her wings.

                Katherine Mabbins Hudson Keitt was born September 27, 1917, in Swansea, South Carolina to Mr. Julius C. and Mrs. Anna Gibson Mabbins.  Katherine was the oldest of three daughters.

                At an early age, Katherine confessed Christ as her personal Savior and joined Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Swansea, SC.  The family relocated to Springfield, SC and moved their membership to Gospel Temple Baptist Church.  Katherine was educated in the schools of Lexington County.

                Katherine married the late Calvin Hudson of Wagner, SC, and from their union four children was born.  She later moved to Columbia, SC, and was employed at the “Old Columbia Hospital.”   She remarried in 1958 to Charlie Keitt, whereby she adopted into her heart his four children, and they all became one family.  From this union came the birth of her youngest child, Julius.

                Over the years, Katherine was employed as a domestic technician for various families in the Columbia area.  She retired from Robert and Anna Williams (Lizard’s Thicket) Family over 15 years ago.  Upon retirement, she remained a faithful member of several organizations in the community.

                Katherine, along with her two sisters, chose Bethlehem Baptist Church as their place of worship.  She was a faithful and dedicated member for over 50 years, serving in many capacities.  Throughout her membership at Bethlehem Baptist Church, she was active in: Garden Club, Vacation Bible School, Missionary Ministry, Jubilee Choir, Food Pantry, and Pastor’s Aide.  She was a member of the United Order of Tents Progressive Tent #3566.

                To know Katherine is to know she revealed to all those who came within her presence that love was abundant, and she gave it consistently to all within her reach.

                Katherine was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charlie Keitt; two sisters, Anna L. Phillips and Anna Mae Benjamin; one stepdaughter, Agretta Way; two granddaughters, Karen Beeks and Audrey Kelley.

                Ms. Katherine Mabbins Keitt leaves to cherish her memory:  six sons, Robert (Edith) Hudson, Columbia, SC, Calvin (Almeta) Hudson, New Haven, CT, Henry (Karlane) Kitt, Stone Mountain, GA, Charlie (Joyce) Keitt, Chattanooga, TN, Willie (Beverly) Chestnut, Newark, NJ, and Julius Kitt, Columbia, SC; two daughters, Benzena Smith, Columbia, SC and Rosetta (Robert) Southerland, Upper Marlboro, MD; 20 grandchildren, including Melissa Miller, whom she raised; 34 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; a host of other nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends, all of whom will miss her dearly.
