Mr. Edward Dreher, Jr., formerly of 2220 Manse Street, Columbia, South Carolina, departed this earthly life on Monday, March 1, 2010 at the Palmetto Health Richland Heart Center.  He was born on January 12, 1929 in Lugoff, South Carolina.  Edward was the first of twelve children born to the union of the late Edward and Eliza Ryal Dreher.

 

Edward attended the public schools of Richland County, South Carolina.  At an early age, he joined Saint John Baptist Church, and was a faithful member until his health declined.

 

He retired from the Department of Mental Health after thirty (30) years of service.  He was also a faithful employee of Leevy’s Funeral Home for over fifty (50) years.  He was also employed with the Blue Ribbon Cab Company, Marshall’s Cleaners, and Dreher and Dreher Dry Cleaners.

 

Edward was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Sarah Jones, and from this union five children were born.  He later married the former Johnnie Mae Ellison, and this union lasted over thirty (30) years.

 

Edward loved his family and was very active in all aspects of their lives.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Eliza Ryal Dreher; and a sister, Mattie Delores Dreher.

 

Mr. Edward Dreher, Jr. leaves to cherish his precious memory: his wife, Johnnie Mae Dreher; daughters, Ms. Edwina Hart, Mrs. Robin (Thomas) Days, both of Columbia, South Carolina, and Mrs. Cheryl (Alvin) Cook of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; sons, Mr. Bruce Dreher of Columbia, South Carolina, and Mr. Larry Dreher of Greenville, South Carolina; five brothers, Ryal (Ethel) Dreher and Louis (Constance) Dreher, both of Columbia, Robert (Marilyn) Dreher and Floyd (Geraldine) Dreher, both of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Damon (Deborah) Dreher of Richmond, Virginia; five sisters, Inez (Frank) Yarborough of New York, New York, Colletta Jefferson, Ethel Thomas, Annie (Cornell) Bailey, and Sara (Robert) Canty, all of Columbia, South Carolina; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a very special former son-in-law, Barron Hart; one aunt, Naomi Dreher of Columbia, South Carolina; seventeen (17) nephews; nine (9) nieces; a host of grandnieces; grandnephews; great-grandnieces; great-grandnephews; many, many other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.
