“A Virtuous Woman”

A Loving Wife and Mother…

Who can find a virtuous woman?  For her price is far above rubies.

 Proverbs  31:1

Following an extended illness, Lorene Carter Poole departed this life at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia on Saturday, March 6, 2010 [The same day the love of her life departed in 2002].  This earthly angel was born in Aiken County on June 25, 1932.  She was reared by the late Johnny and Amanda Mills.

She was a graduate of Schofield High School, Aiken, South Carolina, and continued her education at Claflin University, Orangeburg, South Carolina, where she received a B.S. Degree in Arts Education.

At an early age, she joined Valley Fair Baptist Church, Graniteville, South Carolina.  After graduating from Claflin University, she moved to Columbia, South Carolina, and became affiliated with Friendship Baptist Church.  On June 8, 1957, she married the love of her life, Eddie King Poole, Sr., and to this union three wonderful children were born.  Later, the family moved their membership to Saint John Baptist Church to better fulfill the Church Covenant.  She was a dedicated member of the Saint John Baptist Church until her health declined. Mrs. Poole was a dedicated member of the Senior Musical Choir, Pauline Russell Missionary Circle, founding member of The Emily Davenport Circle, Past President of the Deaconess Board, Advisor to the Junior Deaconess, Cub Scout Den Mother (Troop 156), and General Missionary Organization.  She also attended Antioch-Lithonia Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, Georgia.

Mrs. Poole was a public school teacher in Richland One and Two School Districts.  After over 30 years of dedicated service in helping to mold the minds of boys and girls, she retired from Dent Middle School in 1989.

She spent her entire life as an educator, not only to her students, but to her family, church and community.

Lorene was a faithful member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Columbia Alumni Chapter, Claflin University Alumni Association, Quettes, Richland County Education Association, The South Carolina Education  Association, The National Education Association, and Arts Educator’s Association.

Mrs. Lorene Carter Poole was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend.  She will be dearly missed by her family, church family and friends.  She kept the faith to the end.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory: one son, Eddie K. Poole, Jr. of Baltimore, Maryland; two daughters, Valda Poole Harrison, of Lilburn, Georgia and Noelle Poole (Andre) Enoch, of Irmo, South Carolina; seven grandchildren, Venus, Chris, Joshua, Andre, Justin, Christen, and Marley; one brother-in-law, Roland A. (Zenobia) Poole, Jr, of Florence, South Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Loretta Poole Hill of Baltimore, Maryland and Marilyn P. (Frank)  Hines of Rosedale, New York; several nieces, nephews, cousins; three special angels, Evi Hudson, Ida Miller, and Denise Nugent; many devoted relatives and friends, all of whom join with the family in sharing the grief caused by her departure.
