Sgt. Booker T Washington Rice, III was born on October 4, 1989, to Arletha E. Woodlin Rice and Booker T Washington Rice, Jr. in Dover, Delaware. He departed this earthly life into God’s loving care on Saturday, March 6, 2010, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina.
Booker graduated from Keenan High School in 2008. He attained the rank of Command Sergeant Major while enrolled in the Keenan JROTC program. Shortly after his graduation from Keenan, Booker enlisted in the South Carolina National Guard with intentions of transferring to active duty status. Booker completed basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and an advanced individual training at Fort Lee, Virginia where he served as a MAT CON/ACCTG Specialist (92A).
Booker was a quiet young man that loved life. He was very bright and personable. Many will remember Booker as one who could always shed light on any situation and bring a smile to anyone’s face. Booker was very inspiring and continued to mentor his fellow JROTC cadets that followed him even after graduating from Keenan. He was and continued to be a great source of energy and strength.

Rice of Columbia, SC; his father, Booker T Washington (Joann) Rice, Jr., of Columbia, SC; four brothers, Patrick (Chartese) Davis of Grovetown, Georgia, Marvin (Orthea) Woodlin of Dover, Delaware, Antoine Woodlin, and Frederick Douglass Rice, both of Columbia, SC; two sisters, Sonya (Christopher) Thigpen of Birmingham, Alabama and Nicole (Shawn) Rice of Asheville, NC; his fiancée, Olivia Salley of Columbia, SC, and their unborn son, Booker T Washington Rice, IV; one stepbrother, Darryl Earley, II of Charleston, SC; his maternal grandparents, Mrs. Mildred (Charles) Spence and Mr. Howard Brown of Dover, Delaware; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Marie Rice of Asheville, North Carolina; numerous aunts, uncles, many other loving relatives and caring friends, who will all miss him dearly.
