Country, born September 28, 1967 at Fort Ord, in Monterey, California, Oliver Leroy Holmes, Jr. (affectionately known as Country) was birthed to parents, Mr. Oliver Leroy, Sr. and Mrs. Cordelia Holmes. Leroy was the last child of four children. He was instantly loved and spoiled by his older siblings. Being a rather precocious child, Leroy developed quickly and grew into a smart, courageous, and adventurous young boy. He was comical and witty, especially when trying to talk his way out of trouble. It did not take the family long to discover that they were blessed with their own household comedian. Leroy was a member of the Ecclesia Church of God in Christ, in Columbia, SC. He served as a faithful member of the Backseat Amen Corner and the Pastor Holmes Cheering Committees, both of which he organized he provided no access for others to join. He was a graduate of A.C. Flora High School, in Columbia, SC, and attended Midlands Technical College. He was employed by the Cardinal Chemical Company, in Columbia, where he worked as a Chemical Operator Supervisor until becoming disabled. After leaving Cardinal Chemical Company, he joined his parents in working for their family business at Tire Town, located at 5769 Farrow Road, in Columbia. He ran the business for 13 years. Leroy was compassionate. He worked in his church as the custodian. He also worked throughout his community ensuring that senior citizens and children, who were less fortunate, were fed and clothed. He would often open the doors of his home and offer temporary shelter to those in need. Leroy’s hobbies included: cooking, storytelling, and listening to his fifteen-inch subwoofers, while allowing his music to minister to him in his own way. He also enjoyed playing video games with his family and friends. On Monday July 5, 2021, Leroy answered yes to God’s call, and departed this earthly life at the Medical University of South Carolina, in Charleston. He slept away peacefully while surrounded by family. Leroy was preceded in death by a brother, Wade Holmes. Mr. Oliver Leroy Holmes, Jr. leaves to cherish his precious memory: his parents, Elder Oliver and Mother Cordelia Holmes; daughter, Ms. QuWanda Earle; an son, Jashawn Holmes, all of Columbia, SC; sisters, Mrs. Terry (Jody) Williams, of Columbia, SC, Mrs. Sharmaine (Joseph) White, of Elgin, SC; nephews, Mr. Keith Holmes, of Columbia, SC, Mr. Wendell (Jamaya) Holmes, of Sacramento, CA, Mr. Mychal Holloman, Sr., of Lugoff, SC, and Master Malik Holmes, of Elgin, SC; nieces, Mrs. Latasha (Kenneth) Walker, of Columbia, SC, Ms. Crystal Holmes, of Lexington, SC, Ms. Startesha Holmes, of Jacksonville, FL, and Ms. Sarah Geter, of Lexington, SC; his endearing friend, Ms. Yolanda Kelly; aunts, uncles, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, church members, and other friends, all of whom will forever remember and cherish his kindness, love, and friendship.
