Rest in peace my good friend. What great memories from our years in the band at WSSU. Such a loving and kind soul who will be missed by many. Prayers, love and peace to the Lee Family. You all are in my thoughts and prayers.
I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Lee’s death. He taught both my girls at Rosewood. And was at woodland Park where they played basketball. He was a wonderful man and teacher He will be greatly missed,
My sincere sympathy and condolences to the Lee Family. Mr. Lee was a dear friend and co-worker with The City of Columbia for many years. He always gave positive words of encouragement and always so motivating. He loved the community and the kids. Woodland Park finest. Omg, I have not seen him in years and to learn of his passing has taken my by surprise. May God bring peace and blessings to the Lee family.
David Lee was truly loved and respected by all that knew him. He will live in the memories of so many for his kind and generous spirit.
Rest in peace to Mr. Woodland Park.. Mr. Lee was always there for us as we navigated the early stages of life.. A true friend, mentor and example to many kids on how you should conduct yourself with class and dignity.. Even though, we didn’t always listen, he believed in us nonetheless…Glad to have been able to call him a friend..

Our sincere condolences to the Lee family.
My deepest condolences for the Lee family. Mr. Lee was a one of kind person and loved by so many. A true angel on earth. I have never forgotten him and always loved seeing him. He is an inspiration to everyone he ever met. I can’t walk into Woodland Park gym without seeing his smiling face and remembering all the fun times we had there as kids. I hope that your family can take joy in the fact that he was loved by so many and will never be forgotten. I tell my daughter about Mr. Lee all the time. I am so thankful that he got to meet her on more than one occassion. He will be missed by so many but a piece of him will live through everyone he knew.
David,
You were a HERO living among us. The teachers and students all loved Mr. Lee. We had such fun. You always called me “My Cleopatra”. Goodbye. I’ll see you there, Hero David.
To the Lee Family, I’m so sorry to learn of David’s passing. I first met Mr. Lee through my mom, who taught first grade at Rosewood. When I was a student there I always looked forward to P.E. class because Mr. Lee made everything fun. After school when I would roam the halls waiting on my mom to wrap up her day, I would often stroll by the auditorium hoping to bump into Mr. Lee because he would always make time for me. As so many others have said, he made each of us feel so special. Later through my middle school years I would love when we had basketball games at Woodland Park – it meant the chance of getting to say hi to a friend. He certainly has left a wonderful legacy for all who knew him.
To the family of David Lee:
I first encountered David at Woodlands Park in my capacity as Science Sprcialist at MIMS Hub. We established relationships with many of the City & County Parks to do hands-on math & science.
Needless to say, when I introduced myself to David, he already knew of me as he said, oh you are Miriam’s sister.with that wide, welcoming smile as so many have alluded to.
We hit it off from day one & the rest is history as I met him & “his kids” weekly.
What a wonderful guy & such a terrific role model for anyone, but especially for his charges….the children he taught & mentored daily at each of the schools where he taught & the students at the park.
Heaven has received a special one. John 9:4 ” expresses ” I must work the works of him who sent me, while it is day: the night cometh & no man can work”.
David had a mind to work & inspired so many positively, but he has come into his night time away from this earthly sojourn to take his rest.
They will all smile when they meet David. What a guy!!!
Lord continue to bless his family in the days ahead!
David’s passing is sad news indeed! The days he was at McCants Elementary were special ones for our students. David always had a smile and uplifted everyone he came in contact with. My sincere sympathy to his family and all the young people who benefited from his attention and support.
David always wore a smile. Working with him at Rosewood, I could always depend on him to bring laugher and cheer. My sincere condolences to the family of Mr. David Lee.

My condolences to the family! He was one of the best teachers I’ve ever had. Every time I think about Sarah Nance, I think about him teaching us how to leg wrestle & my skinny legs dominating all the classes.
David and i were child hood friend, thought elementary and High School. We had a good time at our 40th class reunion of Atkins High School. to the family remember what Jesus Promise, that he Shall wipe away all tears from your eyes. Thinking and praying for you at this time. This battle is not yours it is the Lord.

Mr Lee was such a special person to many of us Rosewood and Woodland Park kids. He was so encouraging, comforting, thoughtful, loving, and fun for us. I have thought of him often and he will remain in my heart.
I was one of the 80s Rosewood kids. We decided the eagle would be the school mascot.
I ran into Mr Lee every now and then around town. He always remembered my name and the fish tank I gave him at woodlands park with the silver dollar fish. He still had them several years later when I happened back into columbia and checked up on him.
Mr Lee spent his life making life for us kids better because he loved us no matter what and was always ready with a smile and advice, even after we grew up.

I ran into him and Mrs. Lee at SteinMart before they closed and we looked at each other and I said Mr. Lee he smile and said I know that smile. After all those years he knew I was one of his students. He had a great sense of humor but we knew when he

So saddened to learn of Mr Lee’s passing. He was just the best! We always had so much fun in gym class because of him. I will remember him teaching me how to square dance, busy bee 🐝 and the ever fun parachute 🪂 games we played. Also his presence at Woodlands Park where we spent so much time growing up. He always had a shining smile on his face. You will be so missed Mr Lee 💕.
Mr. David Lee, Jr, affectionately known by myself as Daddy-O was Mr. Everything during his tenure with the City of Columbia Parks and Recreation and Richland School District One. He was my Mentor and Great Friend at Woodland Park and he was the inspiration behind me being who I am today and for that I am greatful. We will truly miss you Sir. Sincere condolences and prayers to the family.
I am saddened to read this announcement. From Rosewood Elementary to Woodland Park, Mr. Lee was a kind man who inspired fitness in the hearts of children everywhere. You will be missed.

I was saddened to learn of David passing. He was a great teacher who loved his job. David had a love for teaching and he made a difference in the lives he touched at Rosewood Elementary. Praying for his family.
I was saddened to learn of the passing of this kind, gentle, patient man. What fun he was to be around and my daughter adored him in the days he shepherded all those students in the after school program at Woodland Park. My heart goes out to the Lee family. I’m sure his arrival in Heaven with be met with those beautiful words from the book of Matthew: “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”
One of my kids (age 42) just text me about this. We/my kids remember him form Old Woodlands Park back in the late 1980’s. He has definitely held a special place in the hearts of many children. Heaven has gained a special angel.
David Lee was a big part of my youth, and boy did I ever love him. When David was around laughter was around!

Mr Lee was the epitome- his kindness and genuine love for his students was ever shining. His friendship will be forever cherished- he was one of my biggest cheerleaders. Light, love, and peace to all of the family.

Mr. Lee taught through his actions and deeds. He showed all of his children what it meant to love everyone. He NEVER forgot any of us no matter how long it had been since he last saw us. I try to live up to his legacy by building lasting relationships with my students. This world is a better place because of Mr. Lee. He will be greatly missed.

I am so sad to hear of Mr Lee’s passing. He was my gym coach at Rosewood back in the 1980s and he made everything more fun with his kind nature, smile, and humor. He treated everyone as an equal and made you feel special even if you weren’t terribly athletic (like myself). Some of my fondest memories of his classes include square dancing and team building activities with the big parachute. He made exercising fun and I know he will be missed by the thousands of lives he has touched.
This world is a better place because he was in it. I feel blessed that I knew him and want to send all my love and support to his family during this sad time.
David was so caring of his students at Rosewood Elementary, and they loved him dearly. He possessed a positive attitude and was always smiling. He was kind and generous with his time. My thoughts and prayers are with his entire family. May God bless them with strength and peace.

Mr. Lee was everything you could want rolled into one. He was a father figure, comedian, and friend. I was lucky to have him as a teacher at Rosewood and as a camp director at Woodland Park. Mr. Lee loved us, and we all loved him. He will be missed by all of us he called his children.
Mr. David Lee was a caring individual. He was a great mentor to our children during their days at Woodland Park. Mr. Lee always greeted you with a smile and a pleasant conversation. He will not be forgotten. Our sincere condolences to the family. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
