Mr. Bennie Lee Sims, Jr. was born on August 3, 1946, in Newberry County, South Carolina. He was the second oldest son of Bennie Lee Sims, Sr. and Louise Rikard Baby” Sims.  He departed this life on Friday, September 24, 2021, at the Wm. Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center.

Mr. Sims was educated in the public schools of Newberry County, South Carolina.  He graduated from Gallman High, Class of 1965. He was drafted into the United States Army at Fort Jackson, SC.

Mr. Bennie Sims, Jr. served as a 12C20 Bridge Specialist. He earned the National Defense of Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Metal and device in 1960, 2 O/S bars, and expert (Rifle M-14). Mr. Sims was honorably discharged in 1968.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Bennie and Louise Sims; his brother, Thomas Eichelberger; sister, Barbara Brown; daughter, Andrea Sims; and a son, Scottie Sims.

Mr. Bennie Lee Sims, Jr. leaves to mourn his passing: his devoted friend, Lottie Harvey; his daughters, Linda Johnson, of Columbia, SC, Pamela (Rusty) Caldwell, of Irmo, SC and Krystal (Christopher) Frazier, of Beaufort, SC; sons, Tyrone Eric Sims and Steven (LaTeacha) Sims; brother, Larry (Betty) Sims, all of Columbia, SC; two sisters, Ruby Renwick and Essie Stephens, both of Newberry, SC; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; mother of his children and caregiver, Mary Sims; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; other relatives, and caring friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.
