Sister Flossie Lewis Benjamin, daughter of the late Herbert L. Lewis, Sr. and Mary Agnes Lewis, was born on April 26, 1938. She departed this life on Saturday, October 2, 2021.

 

Sister Benjamin was a homemaker, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother during her lifetime. She was known for cooking huge meals and feeding many people who were impoverished. She also opened her home to many who were homeless in order to provide shelter to assist them with acquiring means to support themselves and improve their quality of life.

 

At an early age, Sister Benjamin joined Jones Chapel Baptist Church, and remained there until marriage. After marriage, she joined Calvary A.M.E. Church, where she faithfully served as the Missionary President and a member of the Stewardess Board.

 

She was preceded in death by: her husband of 50 plus years, John Benjamin; three sisters, Queenie Lewis, Cora Benjamin, and Julia Bell Geiger; and one brother, David Lewis, Sr.

 

Sister Flossie Lewis Benjamin is survived by: four sons, Herbert Lee (Robin) Lewis, Jr., Joseph Benjamin, Bernard (Miriam) Benjamin, and John Benjamin; two brothers, Henry (Hattie) Lewis and Reverend Harry (Mary) Lewis; fourteen grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends, all of whom will miss her dearly.

  4. I’m so sorry to hear this sad news about sweet Flossie. She was such a blessing to our family many years ago when she helped us with our first born, Dylan. Kind, loving, wise…. She was just what a new Mom and Dad needed. Much love to you sweet Flossie. I know you have been met with a loving, and much deserved embrace

  5. Flossie was part of our family. She loved Liam and Hayley and took such good care of them. She was one of a kind…loving, sweet and with a great sense of humor. My deepest sympathies to her family and the world was a better place because she was in it.RIP Flossie
