Mary Jane Small, born and raised in Blair, South Carolina, passed away on January 27, 2025, at the age of 102 in Columbia, South Carolina, which she called home for over 70 years.
Mary always had a story to share and enjoyed imparting her life experiences and wisdom to anyone who would listen. She was a friend to everyone she met. It was rare to walk away from a conversation with Mary without having laughed — her stories were not only full of life but often filled with humor that left you smiling long after. Although she lived alone for more than half of her life, she was never lonely, always feeling the presence of God by her side.
Mary loved shopping at Goodwill and could point to anything in her home, sharing the story of when it was purchased and the deal she got for it. She also enjoyed getting pedicures. With great pride, she maintained her yard, ensuring it always looked its best. She was blessed to live in her home for over 60 years until August 2024.
Mary was the mother of two sons, George Williamson III and Leroy Williamson, both of whom preceded her in death. She is survived by a loving family that includes three grandchildren, Tia, Marc, and Misty; four great-grandchildren, Marshae, Markeil, Destiny, and Aidan; and two great-great-grandchildren, Marley and Alana. She also leaves behind her two daughters-in-law, Ozeta and Clara.
Mary always believed in receiving her flowers while she was alive, and she received many. In her memory, the family requests that anyone wishing to make a gift consider donating to her grandson and granddaughter-in-law, whose house was lost in the Eaton Fire in Altadena, California. May we celebrate and continue to celebrate her memory with small gestures that keep her living My thoughts are with you and your family
I extend my heartfelt condolences to Grandma’s family and loved ones. Although I met Grandma only once, I feel fortunate to have heard many wonderful stories about her through Tia’s “Adventures with Grandma” posts and updates. Those stories allowed me to cherish her as if she were my own grandmother. She will always hold a special place in my heart. May she find eternal peace in God’s embrace.
ALWAYS love and Treasure Mary and our friendship like family. Thanks to Tia sending her to me for a Massage way back many PRECIOUS years we shared. First day we met with massage took her home 5 minutes away and we visited often. Took her shopping and loved telling others about her AMAZING age and she loved to “shake her booty”. Stories she told me about her growing up etc. told her IF Oprah was still on TV, I’d taken her to Share on Oprah. Truly, Mary was “family” to me and told her like an “ANGEL”. We’ll meet, again, soon, I pray for 2nd COMING.
Sending my love and condolences to you Tia and your family. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Grandma virtually over the years and hearing all of the fun stories. May she rest peacefully.
