Charles Vance, Sr. was born on January 9, 1954, in Columbia, SC, to Roland Vance, II and Annie Bell Bymum Vance. He departed this life on Friday, May 7, 2021. On August 18, 1973, Charles Vance, Sr. married his love, Elaine Henry. God blessed their union with a son, Charles Eugene Vance, Jr. Deacon Vance was educated in the Richland County South Carolina School District. He graduated from Dreher High School, Class of 1974. As a member of the Ephesus Seventh-day Adventist Church, Charles Vance, Sr. was elected to serve as a Deacon and served as Head Deacon for several years. Deacon Charles enlisted in the United States Army, at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He furthered his education at Midlands Technical College, and completed his certification as a Police Officer. Deacon Vance was employed at the Department of Mental Health, as a Police Officer for over 29 years and later retired. He was the owner of the Vance Auto Paint & Body Shop and Home Improvement business. He also worked in the community with the Eagle Alumni Association. Deacon Vance served as a community activist in many ways. He served on the Carver Garden Club, and gave bible studies throughout the community. He enjoyed cooking, building, gardening, and conversing with those he met. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Roland, II and Annie Bell Vance; sisters, Dorothy Vance, Leslie Maehart, and Common Bush; brother, Alexander Brannon; brothers-in-law, Elder Samuel Henryhand, Don Hall, and Robert Lee Henry, Sr. Deacon Charles Edward Vance, Sr. leaves to mourn his passing: his loving wife of 48 years, Elaine Henry Vance; one son, Charles Eugene Vance, Jr.; siblings, John C. Brandon, Roland Vance, III, Ernestine Henryhand, Edward (Teresa) Vance, Elrich (Ethel) Vance, Charlise (Cheryl) Vance, Alameta Vance (Thomas), Leroy (Sharon) Green, John (Juanita), Green, Juanita Green, and Angela Hall; a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and caring friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.
