The Background

Mr. Clyde Elmore Brown, Sr. (86), was born March 20, 1935, to the late Annie Hanes and Joshua Brown. He transitioned to glory on Friday, September 17, 2021. He was known simply as Elmo by his siblings and friends from the College Place Community in Columbia, South Carolina. He always displayed a business-oriented spirit, and was  never afraid to get his hands dirty. His fear of the Lord and strong work ethic are two of the three pillars he held true. The third pillar was family, his pride and joy.

The Dedication

Mr. Clyde Elmore Brown, Sr., loved his community! He was one of the original members of Northminster Presbyterian Church. He helped build the church while serving in various positions including the Board of Deacons, Building Committee, and Finance Committee for over 50 years. He was also a proud member of the Blue Ribbon Taxi Board of Trustees, where he drove cab and served for numerous years. He was especially proud of the 28 years of service at Southern Bell Telephone company (now AT&T) in support of the greater Columbia Region, and occasionally extending work as far as Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. His service to the United States was also noteworthy as a former soldier in the United States Army. He was a proud veteran of the Korean War. His list of passions endures.

The Celebration

Mr. Clyde Elmore Brown, Sr., is celebrated by: his lovely wife and high school sweetheart of 64 years, Naomi Brown; an older sister, Vivian DeGroat; a legacy of seven (7) children, Angela, Clyde, Jr. (Carolyn), Kim, Barry (Kim), Bonnie, Duane (Crystal), and Rodney (Darlene); fifteen (15) grandchildren, Troy, Nathan, Douglas, Barry, Jr., Marion, Jr., Nikia (Tre), Amanda, Naomi, Aja, Jackson, Porter, Bradley, Rachael, Blake, and Carmen; four great-grandchildren, Makayla, Mya, Taytum, and Liam-Jhett; a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, and loving neighbors; as well as, the backing Alpha Xi Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta, and Xi Psi Chapter, Omega Psi Phi. He treated all like his very own immediate family and was extremely proud of all their achievements.
