On January 4, 1961, at Moncrief Army Hospital, in Ft. Jackson, SC, Sgt. Johnnie Lee Taylor and Mrs. Andrena Jones Taylor were blessed with a son whom they named John Gregory Taylor. Early Tuesday morning, before dawn, Tuesday, May 11, 2021, John Gregory Taylor, answered his Heavenly Father’s call. John obediently transitioned into God’s Kingdom of Paradise.
Mr. John Gregory Taylor was a member Northminster Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). He was also a member of the Men’s Council.
John was affectionately known by many as Greg, John, and JT. He had made peace with his Heavenly Father after accepting his diagnosis of cancer, which had overwhelmed his entire body. Greg often talked with his Pastor, Reverend Kimani Wright, as he quietly accepted his faith.
Greg attended A. J. Lewis Greenview Elementary School, Sanders Middle School, and graduated from W. J. Keenan High School, Class of 1978. He graduated as a Wofford Scholar. He matriculated to Erskine College and Howard University, and later joined the United States Army, where he served for 11 years. John obtained his Licensed Practical Nurse, LPN, Clinical Nurse at Ft. Sam, Houston, TX. Upon his Honorable Discharge from the U. S. Army, Greg worked as an LPN at several medical centers throughout, as he took pride in caring for his patients. Greg’s motto was “Helping to preserve life at home and abroad.”
Greg was the proud father of Jericka Shenise Taylor and Kennedy Clarice Taylor. He took pride in raising his daughter, Kennedy, along with the generous assistance of his mother. Greg loved his first-born daughter, Jericka, and his only grandson, Carter. He enjoyed all sports and adored playing golf in his earlier years with his now deceased older brother Ralph. He was an avid, die hard Washington Redskins fan.
He was preceded in death by: his father, Sgt. Johnnie Lee Taylor; and his brother, Ralph Alphonso Jefferson.
Gone, but never forgotten, Mr. John Gregory Taylor leaves to cherish his loving memory: his two daughters, Jericka Shenise Taylor, of Mt. Vernon, AL and Kennedy Clarice Taylor, of Columbia, SC; his mother, Andrena Jones Taylor, of the home; grandson, Carter Mason Barnes, of Mt. Vernon, AL; nieces, Maya Allen-Neely, of Atlanta, GA and Jamella Linnen-Jefferson, of Georgetown, SC; nephews, Jamel Malik Jefferson, of San Francisco, CA and Reverend Cedric (Vickie) Allen, of Waukegan, IL; grandnephew, Amir Lawrence Neely, of Atlanta, GA; an incredible first cousin, Andrena Lamer Best; and a host of other loving family and caring friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.
