  2. I, Carolyn Harmon Feisal, am sending my condolences to the Atterbury Family, Relatives and Friends concerning my second-cousin John a.k.a. “Duke” related to Uncle Bennie Pelzer on his father side. Whom is my maternal grandmomma Minnie Pelzer Shell.
Anyhow, Cousin John and I met in D.C. in 1986 Coming Home journeying out the U.S. Army. One admired his knowledge about Military & World history and philosophy. As we got to know each other while he teaching me how to play lil chess to test me on how to expand my repertoire we ended up sharing U. S. History and our family’s history, we discovered that we came from an Ancient Heritage who gave us our life on Earth noted in John’s Book of Poems: “Short Cuts” dated 23 Feb. 2010 page 85 Poem titled: “Still Here” published in South Carolina. Therefore, he will be missed yet memories of him remains close to my heart as a talented impressive man. So I will close my message with a scripture from St. John who wrote Ch.4v. 16-17: paraphrase: The Son of the Father who believed in him who was condemned who died for our sins so we would be saved.

  4. John and I was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia at the same time back in the seventies. It was good to have a down to earth homeboy there. I would see him often. You have my sincere condolences for your loss.

  11. My deepest sympathy to my extended family, the Atterburys.

John, aka “Duke” was like “the brother from another mother” as we grew up, starting Preschool, together.

While it’s been several years since we’ve seen or spoken to each other, he will foever be remembered as a brother, friend, neighbor, and classmate.

    Rest in Heaven, Duke.
    You’ll be missed…

  14. My deepest condolences to John’s family. He was a wonderful coworker, and I could always count on him to get the mission accomplished as being his supervisor. He was always full of laughter and joy and always tease me about. I need to learn how to play chess to cultivate my mind. Another fallen soldier.🇺🇸🫡

  16. Sending prayers, comfort and strength to the Atterbury family. Your family was my first friends when I moved in the “Village” and became my bonus family. We all grew up together enjoying life and sharing heartaches. Duke was my little brother and will always be in my thoughts and prayers.🙏🏿 Knowing that he’s in a better place gives me comfort and peace. We will see each other again.

  20. Condolences to the Atterbury Family. It was a pleasure knowing John and being his supervisor at the post office for years as well as a great friend. I remember being at his 50th birthday party and hearing his sisters share about the “Chifferobe”. He will be missed, and his “good sharing” has not fallen on deaf ears. God Bless the Atterbury family for allowing John to bless my life.
