Mr. Lanzaddy “Lance” James Smith, age 61, transitioned on April 16, 2023.
Lance was born on February 20, 1962 in Columbia, SC to Naomi B James.
He graduated from Richland Northeast High school of Columbia, SC. Lance was preceded in death by his mother Naomi B James and 2 sisters Diann Kelly and Samara Elgin.
Lance was happily married to Denise B. Smith who was his partner in life for 37 years. Lance is survived by his loving wife and son Lanzaddy “Pep” Smith Jr., step children Aubrey “Boo” and Amber Bowers of Orlando, FL, Bair & Mike Bell of San Diego, CA, Dontorian “Pop” Best of Columbia, SC and Mario Palmer of Blythewood, SC, 24 grandkids, 4 great-grands, brothers Hebert James, Jr of Charlotte, NC, Marius and Lisa James of Charlotte, NC and sisters Janice Ross of Columbia, SC, Venus and Darrell Canzater of Columbia, SC and nieces and nephews.
Besides spending time with family and friends, Lance loved the kids. He was a dedicated school transportation driver for 30 years of Richland School District 2. Lance love and passion for automobiles was how he connected with so many people. He was known an highly appreciated for his kindness and willingness to help others. Lance also had a passion for music, his favorite group was Earth, Wind and Fire. Lance would sing a harmony for anyone and was always the life of every party.
Family and friends are invited to attend his Celebration of Life gathering on Friday, April 21, 2023 from 3:00pm at the Leevy Funeral Home located at Taylor Street Chapel
