Elder Lewis Taylor, Sr, was born on April 17, 1940 in Columbia, South Carolina. He was the youngest son of the late Charlie Taylor and Mary Smith Taylor. He departed this life on Tuesday, October 5, 2021.
Elder Taylor was educated in the public schools of Richland County, SC. He was employed at the University of South Carolina, as a Grounds Keeper Supervisor. He took great pride in managing the grounds and landscape of the Horseshoe, and the main campus of USC, for nearly 34 years before his medical retirement.
He was baptized at an early age, and was ordained as an Elder in the Holiness Church. He served the Lord faithfully in many capacities including Assistant Pastor, before his retirement as Pastor from St. Paul Holiness Church of Eastover, South Carolina.
Elder Taylor enjoyed being outside taking in the beauty of God’s creation. He enjoyed gardening, landscaping, and visiting with family. He enjoyed reading, studying, and sharing God’s word. He especially enjoyed spending time with his wife of 59 years.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Charlie and Mary Smith Taylor; brothers, Edward, John, and Anthony Taylor; Sisters Hattie Taylor Oree, Margaret Taylor Bouknight, Martha Taylor Parker; and a son, Clarence Taylor.
Elder Taylor leaves to mourn his passing; his wife, Willie Mae Williams Taylor; six sons, Lewis (Keyonna) Taylor, Jr., of Palm Coast, Florida, Leroy (Melinda) Taylor, of Ridgeway, South Carolina, Frederick O. (Melissa) Taylor, of Columbia, South Carolina, Jerome (Linda) Taylor, of Columbia, South Carolina, Carl K. (Caelethia) Taylor, of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Kevin (Aleshia) Taylor, of Hopkins, South Carolina; a daughter, Angela M. Taylor, of Columbia, South Carolina; grandchildren, great-grand-children; sister, Annie May Taylor Richardson, of Gadsden, South Carolina; a host of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews, and other loving relatives and caring friends. Elder Lewis Taylor, Sr, will truly be missed dearly by his family and loved ones.
