“I have made it to the top of the hill.”
Mr. Quarterria Tremayne Bates was born on October 2, 1978, in Columbia, South Carolina. He was the youngest child of Ms. Helen Blondell Bates and Mr. Evans Toland. Tremayne, as he was affectionately called by family and friends, walked vicariously through life until his departure on Saturday, May 15, 2021.
“All of my work down here won’t be in vain.”
Tremayne was educated in Richland County Public Schools and completed high school studies at C. A. Johnson High School. He had a fascination for cars and learned all about them as a hobby. He was employed in various places, such as Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital, Villa Troncos, the University of South Carolina, Danny Automotive, Truth of Columbia, and US Ceramics to name a few. He had a huge personality, never met a stranger, and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Few people could stand against the odds Tremayne faced and still smile; however, every time he encountered others, he wouldn’t bore them with his situation but offer to help in any way he could. He was a genuinely kind individual.
“I have shed too many tears.”
Mr. Bates accepted Christ as a young man; he received salvation at Progressive Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ. According to Acts 2:38, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” Tremayne was preceded in death by his mother, Ms. Helen Blondell Bates, the apple of his eye, his brother, Mr. Patrick Bates, and his beloved aunt, Ms. Helen Toland.
