Wade Hampton Smith Daniels, was born to Joe and Lucretia Daniels on November 22, 1937 in Denmark, SC and departed this life on February 24, 2022 in Columbia, SC.

Affectionately known as WAHADA and Uncle Hamp, he was married to Mary Ellen Sanders Daniels for 57 loving years. To this union three children were born.

Wade attended public schools in Columbia, SC and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. Wade entered Benedict College and was awarded a B.S. degree in Mathematics. After graduating from college, he enlisted in the United States Army, traveled extensively, and was honorably discharged.  After returning home, Wade taught math in Bamberg County, SC and at Webber High School in Eastover.  While at Bamberg School, Wade served as a basketball coach and won several state championships.  However, his love for the outdoors and interaction with people, led him to a career at the United States Post Office where he served as letter carrier for thirty seven years.

A lifelong member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Wade served as a Sunday school teacher. He was also involved in the community where he was a member of National Association of the Advanced Colored People (NAACP), a 33 degree Mason of Prince Hall, the Shriners Temple, Post #4262 of Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) and the Benedict College Alumni Association.

As an entrepreneur and business owner, Wade owned and operated the WAHADA Bar and Lounge in Columbia, SC.  An avid sports fan, Wade enjoyed cheering on the Miami Dolphins and his beloved Benedict Tigers.

Wade leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife; his children Wade (Monica) Daniels Muhammad of Atlanta, GA and Lenita (Dr. Thomas) Davis of Madison, AL; his youngest son, James Daniels, preceded him in death.; He also leaves two sisters, Agnes Daniels of Columbia, SC and Burnell Daniels of Atlanta, GA; two brothes-in-law, Councilman Jake Bookard, Sr. of Denmark, SC and Renouard (Mary Ann) Sanders of Hope Mills, NC; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

  12. To : Mary, Lenita & Wade:

As time moves forward and changes comes, that see the transition of loved ones, we are thankful for their lives & the services they rendered during their period on earth

Those of us who knew Wade in the Waverly community, knew him as our Postal deliverer for many years.
We also remember the opening of Wahada on Millwood Ave. during its existence until it relocated.

Wade was always dependable & friendly as he delivered his bag of mail daily and just an all around good guy.
His legacy will live on in his children, Lenita, who was among my favorites at CAJ as well as her late brother, James, & certainly the eldest, son, Wade who I didn’t meet.

As you are surrounded by family & friends during this period, I’m certain that the memories of a life well lived, will be shared & retold for years to come.
Thinking of all of you at a time such as this. Be blessed in your doings!
