I’ve just learned of the passing of my good friend Walter Brownlee. A sign of getting older is seeing your friends leaving pretty regularly but it’s always a shock.. This gentleman hired me in 1986 at NCR Newark NJ as a bean counter in Finance. He was my boss and we became very good friends and co-workers. Walter knew I had just spent 2 enlistments in the Active Duty Marine Corps but encouraged me to continue on in the Reserves and retire so I did but in the Air Force Reserves. Walter was always complementary and encouraging to me as well as others that worked for him. This was a strength of his in being a very successful manager. NCR in those days NCR was a family and with that I believe most of his family knows me or had met me at least once. Walter shared his family and I can remember going to at least 1 of his family reunions in the park. Walter and I worked very hard at being the best and most times we were stuck like glue working late, going to lunches, dinner during or after work. After two or three years Walter encouraged me to move into Computer Systems. We were always friends and kept in touch regularly even when he wasn’t my boss. Walter’s encouragement got me through 34.5 years and I retired at age 60.
In 2018 he was already retired, his health was catching up to him and we lost contact after a failed attempt to get together. At the time he was moving back and forth a between relatives and children living in ATL, NJ and SC. All the numbers I had for him no longer worked.
Just the other day I was thinking of him and a funny work story. Today I tried old numbers again with no luck so I got on Google and started searching. I discovered Walter passed away in 2022. Another friend gone.
For the record, Walter was one of the most honest, kind, caring and gracious people I’ve ever met in my entire 65 years of life. I’ll be visiting you Walter at Fort Jackson SC as soon as I have a chance. RIP Walter …..you were an amazing individual and a great friend. You will be missed by all that knew you but never forgotten.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family of Deacon Brownlee.
Condolences to the family, Deacon Brownlee was a wonderful example of Christian man. He was our assigned Deacon when we joined Brookland over 20 years ago. He showed us such kindness and caring as our Deacon. He invited us to be part of the Christmas play years ago and we gained a wonderful friendship with other Brookland members to this day. There are many wonderful things we can share about him but most importantly Deacon Brownlee showed God’s love while here on Earth.

Sadness flies away on the wings of time. Thoughts and prayers to family of Walter Brownlee
our Prayers an Condolences To The Brownlee Family, Sorry for Your Lose🙏🙏🙏
There aren’t many people who leave such an enormous impact on your life, that makes you feel like the earth has shook. He not only touched the life of my daughter Joy( whom he called “my baby “ ) but he touched my life as well. He showed us how to love unconditionally, when he brought a homeless mother to church, when he allowed us to see Jesus clearly through his plays and when he continually gave of himself during his time of sickness. What an amazing servant! And a never forgotten soldier in God’s Army ♥️
My condolences to the Brownlee family.

Mouring the loss of a great man… Deacon Brownlee’s heart was as bright as his smile!!! As a former Deacon of our Dance Ministry, we will never forget his kindness, his cheerful spirit, his support, and above all else, his love. He was one of our biggest cheerleaders. To know him was to love him indeed!!! So Grateful God Blessed Brookland with him. A link in the chain has been broken. To the family whom he loved and adored, Be Encouraged… God has him on another assignment. He’s earned his Wings!! He fought a good fight!!! He finished the course! We will miss him, but we will never forget him!!! God Bless…
