Our Mom, Carolyn Emma Lee Montgomery Jones, affectionately known as Mook, Cat, and Flossie, was born July 26, 1942 to Albert Montgomery, Sr. and Fannie May Joyner Montgomery. Both preceded her in death. Mom was one of four children, including her loving brothers, Albert Montgomery, Jr., Jerry (Velma) Montgomery, Sr., and Christopher (Pamela) Montgomery, Sr.
Mom was educated in the public schools of Richland County, South Carolina. In 1958, she met the love of her life, Joe Louis Jones, and that is when the life of my mom took its most dynamic turn. On August 24, 1959, Carolyn Montgomery and Joe Louis Jones were married. On October 9, 1960, their first child, Sheryl Charlene (Thurman), was born and the life of motherhood began. It was not long after that, 13 months, on November 11, 1961 their second child, Jennifer Letitia, was born. Approximately 18 months later, on July 4, 1963, Myron Jones (Lisa) was born. She was so proud she finally had a boy. For almost six years the family was complete, so Carolyn thought! On June 27, 1969, Nicole Lorraine was born. With her birth, the Jones Dynasty was complete.
Mom was very active in her church. She was a faithful member of the Women’s Ministry. She also spearheaded the Scholarship Committee and served as its Chairperson. She was also very active in her community. In support of her husband and as a result of her love for him, she served in the American Legion for 20 years and was a member of Auxiliary Unit 249 until her passing. In 1984, she joined the Columbia Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America. She was also a Daughter of Isis, Cairo Court Temple #125 and a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Mom loved her neighborhood. She was a member of the Greenview Reunion Foundation, its goal was to ensure that the neighborhood continued to thrive.
Mom left a legacy for others to follow including: her 10 grandchildren: Micah Louis and Matthew Stephen Jamison, Markus Abram and Immanuel Ishmael Garvin, Jennah Victoria Scott, Harry Lee and Kyanna Michelle Samuel, Isaiah Barr, and Trinity D’nisha and Avery Ishmael Jones; her one great-granddaughter, Dahlia Samuel, a brother-in-law, Isaiah Jones; two goddaughters, Wendy and Wanda Stokes; and two special friends, Yvonne Wright and Reba Goodwin.
Mom was a positive influence on all that encountered her. Everyone who met Carolyn loved her dearly and she will truly be missed by all. She departed this life on Friday, June 4, 2021, the love and legacy of the legend Carolyn Jones will forever live on.
