  3. Mrs. Boone is very special to me. She was a friend, mentor, and most of all, someone who found a way to help those in need. Her greatest attribute was being a proponent for those kiddos who didn’t have a place to go. She was relentless when she heard the true concern in my voice. Her selflessness will forever be my guide post. I’ll see you in Heaven, my dear friend.

  22. To the Boone and Carlson family, I offer my sincere condolences and prayers for God’s strength and comfort during this transitional time. As a Lyon St colleague, I will forever cherish Mrs. Boone. Because of who she was, and her passion for service to and for the homeless and students at-risk, I took a graduate course she helped to create. It was the best course ever. I will truly miss our conversations and our laughter. She was truly a ray of sunshine. Praying much for your family.

  23. Boone & Carlson Families,
In 2002, I was hired as the State Coordinator for the Homeless Education Program. Deborah was the first School District Homeless Liaison I met. We became friends immediately. Deborah’s compassion and caring spirit was perfect for that role. Deborah’s passion for serving the homeless community was seen in everything she did. Not only did she ensure that children experiencing homelessness were enrolled and fully participating in school she also fought hard to ensure their families received the services they needed. They knew Mrs. Boone was there to help them. Always going that extra mile. Deborah was highly respected in Richland and surrounding counties due to her vast knowledge regarding homelessness. The community leaders trusted her and would answer her calls for assistance. Deborah was the liaison for others to mimic, which was hard because she set the bar out of reach. She was phenomenal. I loved hearing her call me Doll. She always had a smile for you and would encourage and uplift you. You could not be down around Deborah; she would not allow it. She was always willing to help, the first to volunteer. A beautiful person inside and out. She would give you anything except her charms and her handbags. I will miss my dear friend.

Grief never ends but it changes. It’s a passage, not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness, nor a lack of faith. It is the price of LOVE. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during these difficult times. Keep trusting in Jehovah God, he will provide comfort.

  26. This hurts my heart. I met Debra through her husband David, who i served with in the Army while stationed in Korea. David talked about his awesome wife a lot and his hope and plan of having a son. Sure enough, here comes D.J. some years later.

While visiting them he said “I never asked this woman to marry me. She and my mother just started planning a wedding and I showed up.” We laughed so hard. She and David have a special place in my heart. I sang at David’s homegoing and though I’m not able to travel for Debra’s homegoing celebration I will sing a song in here honor and memory at worship services on Sunday.

Rest well my beautiful sister. Your love remains with us still. 🙏🏾❤️🙏🏾

  32. It saddens me to learn of Deborah’s passing. Not to long ago I thought of Deborah and I smiled. I should have listened to my spirit and called, never thinking for a minute that it would be my last chance to speak again. I will cherish many fond memories as advocates, enthusiasts for living and as believers that all things are possible through Christ.

I send my condolences to David, who brought her so much joy, and to the Carlson and Boone families. I pray God provides comfort and peace during this time and beyond. RIP Deborah Carlson-Boone.

I’d like to extend my thoughts and prayers to your family, friends, colleagues and community members. Deborah and I met at a NAEHCY Conference and served on the Board of Directors together. She was a phenomenal advocate for unhoused scholars and families. Deborah was beautiful on the inside and outside. Aside from her caring and loving spirit; I will always remember being able to hear her bracelets as she was walking or moving about. I will also remember how she referred to many of us as “doll”. I will miss her daily inspiration. Take one day at a time and I pray that God will provide you with comfort and peace during this season.

She was truly one of a kind and she will always hold a very special place in my heart. I will hold on to the last time you called me a “diva” or say “Mrs. Irene Hamilton Jones” as only you could. I will hold onto the last time you “put me in my place” Only a true friend could do it the way you did. Rip in Peace, you will forever be MISSED!!! 💖

Thank you for bringing “Sunshine” into my life with your wit, charm, grace, beauty, intelligence, warm smile, and irresistible laugh, to name a few.
•No one could call you “Doll” like you could!
•No one could ” Shop till you drop” like you could!
    • No one could ” Bling your many beautiful bracelets” like you could!
    • No one could “respectfully put you in your place”like you could!
I won’t wake up to your inspirational messages, via text, anymore, nor hear you call me “Doll” when we talked.
I do take comfort in knowing how much you loved the Lord and looked forward to one day receiving your place in Heaven.
I won’t say goodbye because this is not our ending; I will say so long for now until we meet up again❤️

I met Deborah 18 years ago when I became the McKinney-Vento (MV) Coordinator for Charleston County School District. My heart is broken because I loved her dearly. We shared stories about life experiences, our children, and work life. We had our share of hard laughs and tears. I will miss her beautiful face, voice, and spirit. Deborah was passionate about her work in Richland School District One and gave 100% to ensure the rights of homeless children and families. Many MV liaisons across the state relied on Deborah’s expertise and knowledge about the MV Act and law as they worked with homeless students and families. Your legacy will live on. 55. To David “D” as he was affectionately called by his mother and to the Carlson & Boone family:

On behalf of the PASS Tutors (Parent and Student Succeed) program with Richland School District One, a sweet, kind, and loving spirit has been called home to rest.

I have worked with Deborah for over 20 years as a tutor and I have watched how hard she worked with the McKinney Vento Program with the South Carolina State Department of Education that supports our homeless students in Richland One.

She has always been so giving of her time to our homeless children and parents ensuring they have what they need to be successful in school, from arranging transportation for students to get to their home school, giving countless school supplies and clothing, to quarterly “Housing Clinics” to help families qualify for permanent housing.

I thank God for Ms. Boone and the way He used her to enhance our community. She was truly an inspiration. A jewel in Richland One will be missed!

David “D” may God surround you with His precious love, and infuse you with His perfect and divine peace! Cherish the memories!🙏🏽♥️ 🌹💐🙏🏽
