God in His infinite wisdom called Mrs. Edith Briggs Hudson to her home of eternal rest, on Saturday, October 31, 2021, at Providence Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina. She was born on February 15, 1943, to the late Hugh B. Lindsay and the late Christine Calhoun Briggs in Laurens, South Carolina. At the early age of eight, she moved to Brooklyn, New York, to live with her mother and stepfather, James Briggs.
Her Christian experience began at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York where she joined and was baptized.
Edith was educated in New York City public schools. Later in life, she furthered her education and at Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, New York, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting. She had an extensive accounting career, and held several positions in which she was promoted numerous times and recognized for her impeccable service and strong work ethic. She was employed by the New York State Civil Service for over 32 years.
Edith met and married the love of her life, the late Robert Lee Hudson. They were united in holy matrimony on October 7, 1961, and from this union, three sons were born: Robert, Wayne, and Jeffrey.
Upon the retirement of her late husband, Robert, in January of 2000, they relocated to Columbia, South Carolina, where they built a home and continued to live out their golden years. Following their relocation to Columbia, they joined Bethlehem Baptist Church, and she continued her Christian experience. Edith faithfully supported and participated in several church ministries until her health declined. She always sought to put God first and reinforced the Christian values that were instilled in her, at an early age by her parents.
Edith was very strong willed and exemplified the highest degree of love and devotion to her family. She particularly took joy and great pride in teaching her only two beloved granddaughters, Kiel and Jada, to be strong women of great character and humility. She embraced life and the many challenges she endured with immeasurable strength and great courage. She was reserved but dignified and discerning. She has truly left an indelible impression on all who have had the pleasure of knowing her and will be greatly missed!
In addition to her parents, Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Hudson; and two stepdaughters, Karen Beeks and Colette Frazier.
Edith leaves to cherish and honor her memory: three sons, Robert (Lucille) Hudson, of Charlotte, North Carolina, Wayne (Sharon) Hudson, of Columbia, South Carolina, and Jeffrey (Sharon) Hudson, of Brooklyn, New York; two stepdaughters, Jessica Hudson, of Columbia, South Carolina and Sharon (Israel) Hopkins, of Sierra Vista, Arizona; one brother, Dennis (Linda) Lindsay, of Lithia Springs, Georgia; five sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; twelve grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; a special cousin/sister, Shirley Moses, of Buford, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other sorrowing relatives and friends, all of whom will miss her dearly.
Sending love and light to the Hudson family. RIP Edith.
