Mrs. Jannie Morris Shealey was born February 10, 1941, to the late John and Virginia Goodwin Morris of Eastover, SC. They later relocated to Gadsden, SC. She departed this life on Thursday, September 23, 2021.

 

At an early age, Jannie joined St. Phillips A.M.E. Church, in Eastover, SC, where she served faithfully. She was on the Usher Board and provided other services as was required. After marriage, she followed her late husband, Oscar Shealey, to Greater St. Luke Baptist Church, in Columbia, SC. She was an active member and also served on the Usher Board for numerous years until her illnesses.

 

Jannie was a graduate of Webber High School in Eastover, SC, and attended other schools in Richland County, SC. After graduation, she was employed by S & M Wholesale Distributor in Columbia, SC. While at that company, she was considered a valuable employee, and she was given many accolades. She solicited summer jobs for numerous young people, whom she supervised and helped develop their skills. Her long employment (35 years) was indicative of her conscientiousness. Jannie, also assisted her husband at their grocery store on Tree St. in Columbia, SC, where they gave extensively to the community and fed the hungry.

 

Jannie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Though physically she is no longer with us, her loving and kind spirit will forever live in the hearts and lives of all those who loved and knew her.

 

She was preceded in death by: her parents, John and Virginia Goodwin Morris; husband, Oscar Shealey; daughter, Sharon V. Shealey; grandson, Dontreyal M. Weathersbee; brothers, John Morris Jr., Richard Morris, Franklin Morris, Roland Morris, and Moses Morris; and sisters, Susie Cole and Emma Stevenson.

 

Mrs. Jannie Morris Shealey leaves to mourn her passing: daughter, Dorothy M. Hopkins; two granddaughters, Brittany L. Hopkins, RN and Alyssa M. Hopkins; a grandson, Daquan C. Hopkins, all of Columbia, South Carolina; one sister, Henrietta Wilson, of Columbia, South Carolina; two brothers, Dr. Robert E. (Percalee) Morris, of Columbia, South Carolina and Elder Calvin Morris, of Columbia, South Carolina; along with a host of nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, and many relatives, all of whom will miss her dearly.

  3. The Shealy’s grocery store was the first Mom and Pop store I knew!! The Shealy’s were nice people and I have never forgotten them!! Condolences to the family 🙏🏽💕
