I just became aware of Mrs. Reid’s passing. She was my 1st and 2nd grade teacher. I was inspired by her style, grace and carriage. I am forever grateful for the many life lessons she taught me – how to carry one’s intellect with humility, how be be smart and elegant;
and she stoked my passion for art. She kept me engaged and loving the learning process. I will treasure our times together and will miss you. Thank you for being my first and second grade teacher and my friend.
Aunt Marie, we were so saddened to learn of your passing, however we are forever grateful that we were able to see you and convey our love to you on your last day here on earth. Thanks so much Cousin Charlene for allowing us to see and speak to Aunt Marie. It is thought that the ability to hear may be one of the last senses to leave, if so you heard our voices and that is very comforting.
Aunt Marie, your absence will leave a void, but the warmth of your memory will continue to light our way. We will cherish the times we shared together, our visits throughout the years, countless telephone calls, written correspondence and time well spent.
Your contagious smile, laughter, intelligence, and kindness touched everyone you met, and your wisdom and guidance will be deeply missed.
Though you are gone, your legacy of love, laughter, and creativity will forever remain in our hearts.
Rest in peace Aunt Marie.

This is an overwhelming time for us all – but in looking at all the images and thank you for Ms. Merritt as I would call her- She had such and impact on the community and I have so many hand painted works of art. I learned even at a distance keeping connected and sharing was a life lesson – I will reach out where I can to share the loss but to celebrate the life She shared with us all. – Darrell Porcher and Family (Son of Naomi “Frankie” Porcher)

Mrs. Merritt Reid was my 2bd grade teacher and my all time favorite! I can still remember how enthusiastic she was when l wrote and illustrated a story about a rare snow and ice storm in the midlands. She was still teaching when l joined her as a 1st grade teacher at A.C. Moore Elementary School. She asked that l not tell anyone because as you know, she retained her youthfulness. She gave me pointers on how to be an effective teacher, and l chuckled because l had a front row seat many years ago. She was just that caring and supportive.We retained our friendship over the years and she gifted one of her precious paintings to me complete with the certificate of authenticity. l was honored when she asked me to be a flower girl at her husband’s funeral. My childhood church was also her place of worship. My last visit was May 2024 and she shared an album of her prestigious accomplishments and gave me advice on life after retirement. Another teachable moment.It was in her blood. She has lived a wonderful life and has left her mark on many of the lives she has touched. I love you Mrs. Reid, and always will. Rest in peace my dear friend. Job well done! 🙏🏽👏🏽❤️
My heart is broken 💔. To hear of “MA Reid” transition has really taken a toll on me. Not only was MA my first and second grade teacher she also became my God mother. I thank God that our paths crossed and she has left a legacy that will live on for many generations to come. The visits on Bethune CT and Broomfield will be cherished forever. Faye like you MA was with me during my good and also not good. She was truly a Child of God that is why it was so easy to love. She was not a selfish person and shared her art ministry with so many people near and far. I could go on and on REST MA and get all of your blessings that has been stored up for you. Fay and family let’s keep in touch

We extend our condolences to the family of Mrs. Merritt Reid and especially her devoted nice Linda. We were neighbors in Bethune Court a very small ,wonderful and close knit community off Farrow Road. When the instate 77 displaced us we never forgot about each other. The Reid were a devoted couple, however they also had time to care about their neighbors. Mrs Reid was an outstanding teacher and a wonderful neighbor.
Oh how I remember this sweet lady. She had such a beautiful and calming spirit. She was my 2nd grade teacher @ WH Burton Elementary School. She fostered my love of reading and spelling. I loved the library, and she would allow me to get as many books as she thought I could read. Mrs. Reid taught me how to go take myself to faraway places just by reading. She was aweome and a great teacher. She will be missed
