Mrs. Gloria Albertha Bailey Young was born June 17, 1933 in Harlem, New York. She was the fourth child out of six children born to Rupert and Leotta Bailey.  She departed this life on Friday, October 29, 2021.

Gloria attended public schools in New York City, and graduated from Washington Irving High School, Class of 1951. Upon graduating from high school, Gloria moved to Brooklyn, New York, and started working various government clerical jobs in 1953. She eventually worked her way up and began working for the Veterans Administration in 1973.  During that time, Gloria picked up a second job at Macy’s Department Store, in Herald Square, New York, as the head cashier in customer service, to support her family. She had a dream as a single mom of buying a new home for her and her daughter, Cherise. After working the two jobs, Gloria was able to purchase her dream house in 1973 in Laurelton Queens, New York. It was there where she and Cherise gained irreplaceable friendships that can never be broken. After working two jobs, for over thirty-five years, Gloria retired in 1988 from the Veterans Administration.

Gloria was also a member of the Eastern Stars and the Civil Air Patrol. During her spare time after retirement, Gloria enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles, reading, going to Atlantic City and playing the nickel and penny machines, and watching Soap Operas especially the Young and the Restless. Lastly, the best thing she loved was watching her grandchildren, taking them to school, helping them with their homework, and spending time with them.

She was preceded in death by:  her parents, Rupert and Leotta Bailey; brothers, Clarence Bailey and Allen Bailey, Sr.; sister, Ruby Bailey; and a granddaughter, Makayla White.

Mrs. Gloria Albertha Bailey Young leaves to mourn in her passing: a sister, Pearl Bailey; two brothers, Rupert Bailey, Jr. and Allen Bailey; daughter, Cherise Parson and son-in-law, Brett Parson (who cared for her so lovingly with compassion and love); grandchildren, Shari Robinson, Melanie Carter, Chris Carter, Mark White, Jr., and Brett Parson, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Ryan Carter, Darren Carter, Michael Coley, Jr., Jason Carter, Marliegh White, and Mark White, III; In addition to a host of stepdaughters, nieces, nephews, many other loving, and caring extended family and friends, all of whom will miss her dearly.
