In my prayer this evening Ms. Hammond I WILL include your family. As I looked for one here I found you. Heyward Gibbes Middle School gave me the opportunity to encounter you. I knew I would never forget Ms Hammond. Stern, yet sweet to me in my 8th grade classroom. All left for me to say is, “I’ll see you later”…………
My condolences to Ava and the entire Hammond family. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers 🙏🙏
The Raines Family sends, our deepest sympathy for the loss of your beloved loved one.
May her memory bring the family comfort and peace. Remembering Ms. Hammond Crayton Middle School
My sincere condolences to the family of my dear friend. Mary and I worked many years at Crayton Middle School. We also were church members. Ava and Vincent were her heartbeats. She dearly love her grandchildren. Her father, Deacon Caŕr, was a life member of First Nazareth Baptist Church. She will be missed.
I send my deepest sympathy to the Family of Mrs Mary Carr-Hammond. She was a very sweet Church Member 🙏🏾💜
Ava, Ted and the entire family of Mary, sincere condolences are extended to you during this time of bereavement. The Meadows and ML have said much of what I would have said about your mom. However, I had a more personal relationship with her that dates back to high school by way of her brother Quincy. She was kind and caring to me. I admired her as a role model in the community. We later served together for many years as members of the Board of Directors of the Booker T Washington High School Foundation Board of Directors. She was dedicated to our Alma Mater. She will be remembered as a phenomenal woman, teacher and friend. Thanks be to God for allowing her to be in my life.
Sincere condolences are extended to the Hammond family. I had the pleasure of working with Mrs. Hammond at Heyward Gibbes Middle School, where we both served as classroom teachers. Mrs. Hammond was the quintessential epitome of a professional educator in dress and demeanor. May you be granted God’s comfort and peace in the days ahead.

It is with a heavy heart that I extend our heartfelt prayers and condolences to the Hammond and Carr families. We will miss the many conversations we had with her especially during CO-VID. Soror Hammond was a beautiful person both inside and out. She was a joy to talk to and would keep you in stitches with her humorous sense of humor. She could have very well have been a model for any magazine because she had the height, body frame, and fashion needed. We will sorely miss her but to GOD be the glory! HE has taken her out of her misery. May GOD provide you with the necessary strength to endure your time of bereavement. GOD bless you!
“Over the sunset mountains, Heaven awaits for me. Over the sunset mountains, Jesus my Savior, I’ll see.”
Cousins Ava, Ted, and Families,
My prayers for God’s comfort and peace and my heartfelt condolences for all of Cousin Mary’s family and close friends in your bereavement.
Ava, when I first met you I did not know that we were “kin”.
And I had known your dear Mother, Cousin Mary, from elementary school, and did not know that she and I were related until well into my adulthood.
Initially, Cousin Mary and I frequently discussed the family’s genealogy when we discovered our family connection. We also had MANY! other interesting conversations! Yes! Our “talking” identified and confirmed our common DNA! And I will sorely miss conversing with Dear Cousin Mary.
I also enjoyed seeing her, and the two of you together at Commissary or the PX from time to time.
May the family’s memories of Dear Cousin Mary’s love and dedication for you, and her wonderfully, dear legacy, add joy,
with the Lord’s comfort and peace for you, now and in future times.
My love to you.
My condolences to Ted and the family. Your mother was a caring sweet Teacher. She will be miss Now she is with the Lord resting. Ready in heavenly peace.
Sing a song of glory. A song of work and fun. Sing a
song for Alma Mater Booker Washington. We,thy loyal children. Faithful ,to thee come, Reverently bow to Booker Washington. These words describe Ms. Hammond relationship with her Alma Mater Booker Washington. You didn’t have to be in her class ,she bonded with anybody who attended Booker Washington and you didn’t have to graduate from that school she loved on you just because. Mrs. Hammond made me and my sister feel very special at any of our school alumni events. Mrs. Hammond was a very inclusive person with all of the alumnus. She gave her time to help keep the dream alive. She worked with the foundation and because of her things always turned out well. Not only was she a very faithful alumni, she was also a very well dressed alumni, from head to toe. We light this 🕯in memory of Mrs. Mary Georgetta Carr Hammond.
Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the loss of Soror Hammond, a very kind and gentle spirit. May God continue to bless the family. Omega Rho my Sister. We shall meet again.

To Ted and Ava et al, I am truly saddened to hear of Mary’s Passing but I knew when I when I did not get return calls from her after many attempts to reach her, that things were not getting better. I know it is hard to let go of such a strong spirit with all the knowledge, love and guidance she so gladly shared with anyone who would accept it. She did all things well and was such
an inspiration to me when we worked together at Crayton.
She is truly free at last
My heart and prayers go out to you all.
Ted you and your family have my deepest sympathy. “There is something about losing a mother that is permanent and inexpressible – a wound
that will never quite heal.”
You mom was my 6 grade teacher at Crayton and I remember that sweet spirit she was just a jewel. I last ran into her some years ago at the PX and she looked just like she did at Crayton and it was a good seeing her.
Classmate we the class of 82 is here for you.
To the dear family:
Mrs. Mary Georgette Carr
Hammond “wore many hats” as she served her church, her alma mater and her community in her chosen profession as an educator.
I have known Mrs. Hammond since I was a teenager as my introduction to her was as the daughter of the eminent McKinley Carr, Chairman of the Deacon Board of First Nazareth Baptist Church from my early childhod throughout my growth & development as a young woman.
Mrs. Hammond, later distinguished herself as an educator until her retirement after a long & successful career with Richland School District One.
She remained an active & participating member of her church for many years until physically challenged & unable to do so. Admittedly, she was one of the longest serving females on the Trustee Ministry
Her wise counsel & wisdom served me well as I began my tenure with the ministry in 2000.
Beyond her church service, she was an active member with her BTW class of 1951, where she served in a leadership tole during their annual gatherings.
Her longtime service as a member of the Booker T. Washington High School Foundation Board of Directors was, meritorious. She served as our secretary for many dedicated years before stepping aside. She was adamant about doing things “decent and in order” during her long tenure.
As a grandmother to Ava’s & Ted’s children, she was proud &
doting anytime she talked
about them, which was quite often.
As things slowed down with her, we communicated less frequently, regrettably.
I shall remember and revere all of my memories and interactions with my friend, church member, and colleague, Mary Georgette Carr Hammond all the days of my life!
She has received her miracle of healing and now resides eternally with her loving Savior.
To God be the glory!
My prayers are with the family. I truly will miss my friend. Love you.
