Mrs. Shirley Ann Waiters-Stribling took her flight with the angels, and exchanged her life for eternity, to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, June 14, 2021. Shirley was born on March 3, 1947, in Bronx, New York. She was the daughter of Jennie Vivian Waiters and the late Peter Nelson. Shirley was educated in the public schools of New York, and graduated from Evander Childs High School, in the Bronx, N.Y. After graduation, she entered the workforce in the garment district, and met Buford Stribling, Sr. They married in November 1965, and from their union they had four children, Yvette Stribling, Barbara Stribling, Buford Stribling, Jr. and Robert Stribling, Sr. Later on, in life after the death of her husband in 1985, she met her life partner Charles Williams Sr. They traveled around the world together and enjoyed life. In that union, they had two children, Tedd Williams and Naomi Williams. After her children entered public school, she decided to re-enter the workforce in home healthcare. Accepting her calling to care for the sick, she broadened her knowledge in healthcare. Shirley had a true understanding of the relative importance of being a certified nursing assistant, that one needs to have a caring heart if they are going to help others get well. With her effectual smile and big heart, she embraced her patients, as family. She would warm the hearts of her patients, and it gave them strength and encouragement to want to live. She loved them all. One Sunday morning at the Bible Church of Christ, Inc., in Bronx, New York, she received the Holy Spirit under the auspices of Bishop Roy Bryant, Sr., DD. After relocating to Columbia, SC, she began attending New Williams Street Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Allen Jacobs, Jr. There she served on the Senior Usher Board, The Pastors Aide Committee, and the Women’s Ministry. In 2008, she joined Village of Hope Fellowship Church under, the auspices of the Pastor, Reverend Dr. Charles Perry Austin, Sr. As a faithful member, Shirley served in many organizations within the church. She was a diligent servant for the Lord even when her health began to fail her in 2009. Shirley, a faith walker, would not allow her illness to stop her from working for God. During her remission, Shirley severed on the Usher Board, Women’s Choirs, Women’s Ministry, and volunteered her service in feeding the homeless. Shirley was a woman that didn’t bury her talents. She believed in working for the Lord, in deed, sharing the word of God and encouraging others, and she never complained. Shirley would say “My Pastor, when speaking with her Pastor, as long as God gives me breath and strength I’m going to serve God”. She was preceded in death by: her parents, Jennie Vivian Waiters and Peter Nelson; her husband, Buford Stribling, Sr.; and life partner, Charles Williams. Mrs. Shirley Ann Waiters-Stribling leaves to cherish her memory: her daughters, Yvette, Barbara, and Naomi; her sons, Buford, Jr. (Patricia), Robert, Sr., and Teddy; twelve grandchildren, Endaisha, Travone, Tabitha, Candice, Isaiah, Kobe, Robert Jr., Tyrese, Ayona, David, Daniel, and Jeremiah.; one great-grandchild, Amayah (Maya); stepdaughters, Christine Powers and Rita Sanders, stepchildren, Latarsha Robinson, Tichina Powers, David Powers, Jr., Marcus Johnson, Xavier Mack, Mathew Hall, Brittney Hall, and Aden Woodruff; one uncle, Minister James Waiters; her aunt, Pastor Eleanor Samuel; brothers-in-law, Ralph and Billy Stribling; sisters-in-law, Annie, Mary, Ruby, and Reverend Jannie “Bernice” Stribling. She will be fondly remembered by a host of loving relatives and dear friends, Mrs. Veronica Stroud-Brown and Mrs. Brenda Ross, both of whom she adopted as her sisters. A special thank you to Miss Felicia Tucker. She will be very much missed by her little boy, PeeWee and her grand-dogs, Duchess and Tiny (her four legged children). Sleep on Mom (Shirley) and take your rest, we love you but GOD loves you best!!!
