Never known him to be sick it was shocking for him to have one episode that opened the heavenly gates to God for him! Perfect pitch his song was”When I Gone the Last Mile of The Way “

  5. My heartfelt condolence to the Taylor Family…. I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Rev James “Skeet” Taylor. He was a big part of so many people’s lives especially the Hoefer & Bookert families. A larger-than-life man.
I am honored to have wonderful memories of him. He never met a stranger. He was with his daughter at a catering event. He prayed for the family and then he noticed he knew several people. When I walked up, he said I didn’t know this was family.
I am so thankful for each time that I spoke to him or saw him he would give me a history lesson about my family connection from Ridgewood Community, Zion Chapel Baptist Church #1, and families Up the Country. I would be hanging on to every word. Our last conversation which was three months ago. That evening he gave me history lesson a word from the Lord to encourage me. Before we hung up, he told me that if I ever needed him to please call him. I had no idea that was going to be my last conversion with him. He will be truly missed.

  11. My heartfelt condolences to the family on our loss.

I was blessed to have had Skeet in my life and family. Skeet was more than a cousin to me. He was a father figure and spiritual mentor. So much of what I am today is directly the result of the positive impact that Skeet and Roberta had on me. Thank you both for everything!

Skeet, you always made me feel loved and special. I believe you can’t give away what you don’t have. Thank you for making me feel special; only a special person like you can do that.

You were responsible for many of my first experiences … fishing, hunting, and, oh yeah, washing that yellow chevy. You helped introduce me to the bible and praying along with my great-grandmother. Thank you!

I can still hear you singing on the radio and in the car as we drove down to your church in the country.

I love you. Rest in peace until we meet again.

Condolences to the Taylor family. We met Pastor Taylor thru my mother and father’s membership at Blackjack Baptist Church in Winnsboro, After our retiring, we relocated to Winnsboro and found Pastor Taylor to be an excellent spiritual teacher and religious leader. At that time, Pastor Taylor was pastoring at the Calvary Baptist Church in Ridgeway.

We decided to join Calvary where we not only developed a pastor parishioner relationship, but a personnel relationship also. Pastor Taylor has visited our home on a couple of occasions; During our house warming celebration, Pastor Taylor asked for Christian blessings upon our home.

Pastor Taylor will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Deep regrets on the loss of Pastor Taylor.

Rev Taylor was a good neighbor to my mom the late Frances Davis whom lived across the street from him. Whenever I would come to SC to visit my mom , I could depend on Rev Taylor to give me a word from the Lord to encourage my heart. He was a man of prayer, praise and song unto the Lord! My family had the pleasure of seeing his gifts in operation as he led the EULOGY program during my mom’s homecoming service. He did a AWESOME job.

  45. Pastor James Taylor and I lived in the same community for years. With mixed emotions (profound sadness & inexpressible joy) I accept the reality of his departure & promotion from labor to reward; after “walking in the pathway of duty & working to the close of the day, knowing there’s a joy that awaits him.” When I entered ministry, he was generous & kind enough to share with me many beneficial things that helped me when I became a pastor. My apprenticeship began, began, when asked me to assisting him with funerals, later if became aware, it wasn’t because he needed help, but, because he wanted to be of help to young untrained minister) and I learned a lot., so I’m grateful for the wisdom & insight he imparted, acquired from 50-plus years of Pastoral experience.
I thank God for my opportunity to receive ministry mentorship and have great fellowship with Rev. Taylor. On my last visit, a month ago, we talked, sung a little of “When I’ve gone the last mile of the way,”(which he wanted me to learn, practice and perpetuate) and dined together, unaware it was our final time. Ministry can be a lonely walk, so I will greatly miss this great personality and spiritual father figure, whom I loved very much and will cherish shared memories. Rest in Peace, until we meet again.

We would like to extend our sincere condolences to each of you during this sad time. Reverend Taylor was truly a very humble, dedicated and anointed servant of our Heavenly Father and he demonstrated that anointing in everything he did. He had such a warm, welcoming spirit and it seems like he never met a stranger. He always showed genuine concern for the members of his congregation in addition to providing whatever assistance he could to help those in need. We’re going to miss Reverend Taylor but his legacy will continue to be a part of our lives. We thank God for allowing our paths to cross with Reverend Taylor along this life’s journey. To the family &friend of my cousin “skeet” Taylor- respecting his calling in pastoring but remembering his support during the passing of my dad William “Pie” Johnson -his cousin and my mom “Ruth Ann”; my sister “Sandra” Johnson- Dunlap. He will always be remembered for his wit, conversations and pastoring- mostly as we have identified his singing. I recall during the time my dad was sick and I wanted to do a small family gathering with my dad- Pie along with his brother James “Boo” & Jacob “monk pee” because I understood the assignment. Everybody came to support this gathering at my dad nursing home because we had wanted a lasting memory for the brothers- I must say it was love ❤️ and caring that can’t be described. We sang with skeet all the songs while we fellowship. He was supportive and always connected with my mom and sister. He will be missed only if you hadn’t develop a relationship.
