Mr. Burroughs Vereen, Jr. was born on July 11, 1947, in Aynor, South Carolina. He was the son of Burroughs and Sarah Virginia Vereen. He went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 19, 2021.
Burroughs was educated in the public schools of Horry County, SC and graduated from Whittemore High School in 1965. Burris was a standout basketball player, and was well known for his sharp shooting. He married his beloved Joy in 1976.
A dedicated and passionate professional, Burroughs B.J. Vereen valued an honest day’s work. B.J. was well known for his unwavering work ethic, supporting Myrtle Beach’s largest and most successful newspaper, The Sun News. Prior to starting his own business venture, Vereen’s Janitorial Service, B.J. served in a critical role at the award winning Carolina Opry.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Burroughs and Sarah Virginia Vereen, his wife, Joy Vereen; and sisters, Willie Mae, Bertha Lee, and Donnis.
Mr. Burroughs Vereen, Jr. leaves to mourn his passing: his sons, Carey (Olga) Vereen, of Reston, Virginia; Mike Vereen, of Columbia, South Carolina; Marcus Vereen, of Columbia, South Carolina, and Pastor BJ (Shannon) Vereen, of Florence, South Carolina; sisters, Helen and Roggie Lee; brother, Jimmy. He was Pepaw to 14 grandchildren, and leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.
