  18. We count it an honor to have listened to the cadence of his conversational voice , to have experienced the measured joy in his laughter, and to have received the warmth of his unassuming hospitality on many occasions. The State has lost an humble native son. His friends have lost a treasure, but his family has earned the privilege to carry his legacy of meritorious achievement. Thank you, Judge Cureton, for sharing your stories of triumph, redemption, and perseverance. You will never be forgotten. To Indira, Jason, and the extended Cureton family we pray that you find solace in knowing that he loved you beyond measure. He endured the journey for you.

  24. I was fortunate to serve as Judge Cureton’s Law Clerk in the mid 1980s at the Court of Appeals. I never knew a better man. He was intelligent, had a wonderful calm demeanor and temperament, a great sense of humor, and was simply a joy to work for. South Carolina has lost a great man, and a great Judge.

  25. To the Family of Judge Jasper Cureton:

As I reflect, my first knowledge of the personality of Jasper Cureton was when I was about 24 years of age n the seventies & heard on the news that the Judge had been appointed as the “first” Master In
Equity of his “race”. Now that was
news on two fronts because I had
not heard of him nor did I know
what a Master In Equity was.
But I soon found out because Jasper Cureton made the position come alive in my opinion & Judge Jasper Cureton’s name and deliberations became news worthy over the years.

Judge Cureton’s name & title became a house hold word in the judicial community as he held court constantly & his skills & judicial acumen were on full display. He was indeed all that so many have observed of him, brilliant, competent, patient, a gentleman, a scholar, and yes a very decent & humble human being in his advocacy, the judiciary.

He leaves a stellar legacy in his chosen profession for those who care to emulate his work ethic.

Well done thy good and faithful servant.

Blessings to his family! at a time such as this!

It was my first legal job and I will be forever grateful that he gave me that opportunity. Judge Cureton was a humble man and a jurist with extraordinary temperament. I watched him throughout his career and wanted to be the kind of Judge he was. Thank You Judge Cureton. May you rest in peace. My condolences to the entire family. Alex Kinlaw, Jr.

  36. Judge Cureton, a highly principled jurist, was the best of judges, always polite, always prepared, always even tempered, always fair and impartial, and always current on his work. I have lost a dear friend with whom I had the pleasure of serving on the South Carolina Court of Appeals for nearly a quarter of a century. His life made a difference. The world is a better place because of his touch, his thoughts, and his pen.
