  1. Alex educated me on what it means to be a young Black Christian in America. He took the time required to make me understand that both my Christian image and my Character had to walk in sync. Alex helped me build the foundation for my life of faith. Alex lives on through people like me, and through all those that he has touched. God used Alex to help me understand how he works through people he places around us. Alex’s influence on my life will help millions of Students go to College. His influence will help millions of Entrepreneurs in communities of color , become financially self sufficient. His influence will allow me to eliminate “Essential Services Deserts,” in Communities of Color around America. My relationship with Alex taught me that God moves mountains one grain of sand at a time. I may be just one grain of sand. But, I’m sticky and I’m rolling down hill with a purpose. God bless you Alex Middleton, my old friend and Mentor.

  5. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr. Alexander Middleton, Jr. I did not know him personally, but I knew his father, stepmother, and three siblings. We were all members of Greenview First Baptist Church.

The last time I saw him, was one Sunday at Greenview. He was seated to my right maybe two pews ahead of me. What drew my attention to him was the quiet smile he had on his face that I saw from a side view. That view of him casted a striking resemblance of a Godly man I knew at Greenview. My mind was immediately filled with memories, and I knew without a shadow of doubt, that he was the son of the late Dea. Alexander Middleton, Sr. Alex, Jr. never knew I was behind him gazing at the distinct similarities of father/son.

May his soul rests peacefully in the presence of the Lord. Amen 🙏

  6. Alex and I met in 1972 as a newly recruited commercial loan officer at First National Bank of Miami and he was hired as the first Black professional in the bank’s credit card division. As time passed, we became very close friends.

As time pasted, we learned the positions weren’t the opportunity promised. We started talking about seeking employment elsewhere where. A friend of Alex told him that IBM was hiring suggested he call the branch to determine if IBM had an opening in Miami. He told the branch manager that I worked with at the bank wasn’t very interested in a position with IBM. He mentioned that IBM offered me employment several years earlier as grad school graduate. We were hired and started our IBM career in Miami.

We became members of Glendale Baptist Church served in the church ministries, bowled on the same team in church league. During the ten years we lived in Miami, we talked face to face in the office.

In April 1982, I was promoted to Atlanta. We communicated weekly and met together when I visited the branch office as an IBM Area staff person. The same when he came to Atlanta. We friends in our business careers discussed opportunities and options as they were offered to us.

We were dear friends and respected each other input. Upon retirement, he relocated to Charlotte I stay at his home as I traveled to NJ, MD, and VA to family. During my visits to JCSU homecoming each year I invited him to participate in the activities.

We hadn’t seen one another since 1019 JCSU’S homecoming. I was looking forward to spending some time with both Alex and Avery at Smith’s homecoming this year.

In my short life of 82 years, I have met many people and some were and are friends today. My friendship with Alex was the closest and the longest excluding siblings.

Alex and I were friends and shared many moments sharing our trials and tribulation. I will miss my friend until God calls ALL together to be with Him.

Finally, Proverbs 16:3 sums up our relationship: “Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.”

  9. To the family of Alex, I extend my deepest and most heartfelt condolences. He was a special person who seemed ALWAYS to have a smile. It was a joy and wonderful to see him last year after so many (too many) years, and he was the same person. There are friends you never forget, even though you lose contact; however, time stands still for some, and Alex was one of those friends. May your special and cherished memories bring you peace in the days and years ahead.

It was ironic his sister’s husband and my present husband were close friends at Howard Univ. where I attended college. Small World!
