Mr. Herbert McDuffie born January 7, 1942, was the son of the late Johnson McDuffie, Sr. and Alice Peeples McDuffie, in Bishopville, South Carolina. On the morning of Saturday, September 25, 2021, Herbert travelled from this life to eternity. We shall miss our family member, our church member, and our friend.

Herbert began his religious development at Mount Hermon Baptist Church, in Bishopville, South Carolina. While residing in Paterson, New Jersey, he attended Second Baptist Church. After returning to South Carolina, he joined Bishops Memorial A.M.E. Church, as a watchcare member, and later was a founding member of Adams Northeast A.M.E. Church, in Columbia, SC. At Adams Northeast A.M.E. Church, he served on the board of Trustees, Usher Board, Sons of Allen, and the Male Choir. He was also honored as Adams Northeast A.M.E.  1st Unsung Hero.

Herbert received his formal education in the public schools of Lee County, SC. He was a 1962 graduate of Dennis High School. While residing in New Jersey, he was a Truck Driver for a distribution company located in the garment district in New York City. After returning to South Carolina, he began a career in law enforcement with the South Carolina Department of Corrections. He received several accolades and certifications through Midlands Technical College. While at the Department of Corrections, he became a member of the Riot Squad until his retirement.

On June 3, 1966, Herbert married his high school sweetheart, the love of his life, Helen Williams. Their union was blessed with two daughters.

Herbert was a devoted husband and father. He loved his family and his grandchildren were his pride and joy to the end.

Herbert was also very active in the Belvedere Neighborhood Association.

  18. May you fine peace during this time. I will keep the family in my prayers. I have found comfort in Psalm 23. Always treasure and remember the good that you have had with your father. When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on. Trust and believe that God will eventually take your sorrow away.
