To the family of our homeboy, John “Skip” Turnipseed;
We all grew up in the Waverly Community of Tree St., Herbert St., Senate St, Pendleton St. etc.
My early memories of Skip was as the “delivery boy” for the Joiner’s Grocery at the intersection of Pendleton & Tree St, of which our entire community patronized.
The Joiners were decent people who served our community for many years.
I can remember Skip’:s Mother, affectionately called Miss Carrie being large ,& in charge in the neighborhood which I felt was like one big family as we were growing up.
Those were wonderful and pleasant times of which we grew up in and ‘Skippy Boy” my brothers, the Bellringer boys & others, made us feel safe as we moved throughout the community day to day, especially during the summer months when we were out of
school.
I shall reverse my memories of John “Skippy Boy” Turnipseed as a part of those wonderful memories of history as we were growing up.
And yes, for the record, Skip will forever be remembered as one of BTW’s outstanding basketball players during the decade. of the sixties.
Family, as you move forward beyond this bereavement period, may you continue to cherish your memories of a life well lived. One who I shall forever remember as that tall, delivery boy on that bicycle & a phenomenal basketball player at the home of the BTW Tornadoes.
To God be the glory!
Our sincere sympathy and condolences and prayers to the family and relatives and friends.
May God hold you close to his heart,where He can feel your deepest loss and fill you with His deepest love.
Condolences to the Turnipseed family. Keep looking to the hills.
