  1. Each time we embrace a memory, we meet again with those we love for the heart never forgets. With our love and condolences,

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

  4. I offer my deepest condolences to the Ellison Family. I was so sorry to learn of the passing of my friend and classmate Cecil. We met in eighth grade at what was then Fairwold Middle School. He was a great guy and I liked him a lot. We graduated high school in the C. A. Johnson class of ’66. We shared a laugh when he came through my neighborhood. I shall miss him.

  9. To the family of Mr. Vernon Cecil Ellison, especially his beautiful children and grandchildren, we the alumni class of 1966 C.A. Johnson HS send our heartfelt condolences. We loved him too. Collectively, we spent many hours together laughing, sharing family stories and enjoying life. Personally, I remember my friend Cecil teaching me about the ‘air fryer’ and favorite recipes.
We know there are no words to ease your pain at this moment, but as the days, months and years go by, we pray the wonderful memories of Cecil will bring you comfort and peace and that you will look up for continual strength.
Our classmates and I will hold fast to the wonderful memories of a truly beautiful friend and classmate. You are in our prayers. The C,A, Johnson Alumni Class of 1966.

  10. The Northcutt Family takes great comfort in knowing how proud Mr. Ellison will be today as he looks down on his two beautiful, accomplished daughters and those three wonderful grandchildren.

We really enjoyed getting to know Mr. Ellison through April and Mike, and getting to attend so many of David’s games together when he was at Gardner-Webb.

The fact that MJ has followed in his footsteps and elected to serve his Country had to be a huge source of pride for Mr. Ellison as well.

We feel honored to know this family, and we are grateful for all they have done for us and meant to us.

  14. Cecil will sleep for a little while! The Bible tells us, “Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs (the grave) will hear his voice and come out. (John 5:28) When Jesus resurrects Cecil, he like millions of others we have lost to the enemy “death” will have the hope to live again forever, on this earth which will be restored to the paradise it was in the beginning, and Jehovah will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, nor mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things will have passed away.” (Revelation 21:4)

  25. It is hard to accept the fact that my friend has left us. We were planning a trip for you to you visit me that we had to reschedule. God has charged and challenged me to still meet you in Heaven. You were the same as long as I knew you. A rare breed, jovial and always in pursuit of righteousness. A person I have never heard anything negative about. A role model for parenting! A walking talking eating machine! It is hard for me right now!

  32. Cecil, my classmate, but most importantly my friend. When I talked with you on Saturday, your birthday, I had no idea that would be the last time I hear your voice. You will truly be missed. Although we were miles apart, we talked often. Your visit to Texas and the time we spent together is a fond memory and I’m glad we captured it in pictures.

Rest on my friend. I know your soul is at peace and I will always remember the last words we spoke to each other, “I Love You”.

  35. I’ve been trying to get my words together..Mr. Vernon was my coworker on paper but in my heart he was my dear friend. He was like a father, brother, uncle, just depends on what day it was.
Always willing to help anyone. Never wanted pity from anybody but he knew I was gonna fuss anyway because I cared so much. He was the person you wanted to protect…I checked on him as much as he would let me. Mr. Vernon lived his life on his terms and unapologetically and for that I always held the highest respect. He had stories for days especially about his family. His face just lit up talking about his children and grands.
I can’t fuss at you no more but its okay because you are in good hands now. We love you but God loves you best. Get your rest my sweet friend. I will see you again.

  36. Mr.Vernon was lively funny and helped wherever he could. He was one of the first people to help me out and show me how the Post Office worked. I would always look forward to seeing him. My day wasn’t fully complete if I didn’t see him, honestly. He was one of those people that you could really hang out with and talk to for hours. My heart is heavy but im glad you’re at peace, no longer dealing with this world. I hope you’re sipping piña coladas on the beach and eating ribs Mr. Vernon!

  38. I am so heartbroken to be writing in this book! Mr. Vernon was a funny, helpful, caring friend. Unfortunately, I only had 1 short year to get to know him but it felt like much more! He was one of the hardest working men in the Elgin office. Not to mention we bonded as foodies over talks of good food.

He was so proud of his children and grandchildren. I hope you know that. He spoke of you all every chance he could, so know that yall were loved and made him very proud!

    You will be greatly missed.
