Sister Edna Mae Lucas Brown was born on July 2, 1952, at her home on 1310 Rockefeller Street in Savannah, Georgia. She was the fifth of seven children raised on Tybee Island. She was baptized at Lil Litway Baptist Church on Tybee Island, where she attended Sol C. Johnson School for first through twelfth grade.

Sister Brown was a member of Lil Litway Baptist Church most of her adulthood.  She married the love of her life Robert Lee Brown, on July 15, 2000 and relocated to Columbia, SC. She was baptized at Progressive Church of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and received the gift of the Holy Ghost. She worked on the Hospitality Board for many years. She then decided to further her education and began attending Southern Wesleyan International University. She graduated with an Associates of Arts and Business Degree in 2007, while teaching at Watkins-Nance Elementary.

She loved caring for her family; this was why she chose the career in childcare. She touched the lives of so many and her memory will forever be in our hearts.

Sister Edna Mae Lucas Brown leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Robert Brown; one son, Michael Lucas; daughters, Angela Lucas, Angela Brown, Carla Smoot, Katrina Garrick, Keisha Brown, and Maria Washington; sisters, Thomasina Washington, Alberta Singleton, and Deloris Washington; with a host of other relatives and friends, all of whom will miss her dearly.

  15. My heart just dropped when I heard of the passing of Mrs. Brown. I remember her being a sub at the school I worked at. She always had a smile on her face and she always would take the time to speak to me and give words of encouragement. How she spoke to me it was like I was family. To know her was a blessing. I am grateful I was able to work with her and to know her. Heaven has truly gained an angel! I am praying for her family and friends.

  22. My heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to the Brown family. Mrs. Brown was such a very kind and compassionate person. She loved all the children she mentored and nurtured that she encountered. She was a mother figure to them all. She never, ever met a stranger. She will be sorely missed. The love of GOD was always exhibited through her examples. May GOD provide you with the needed strength during your time of bereavement.
