Dear family,, as you prepare to eulogize Mrs Vivian Gray Nelson, what a beautiful and oh so pleasant lady she was as a member of the Booker T. Washington class of 1949.
I met her many years ago when
her late husband , Mr. Herbert.C. Nelson, served as President of our BTW Foundation in the early years.
Over the years as classes organized in reunions, Mrs. Nelson emerged as a contact with me in my role as treasurer after Martha D. Thompson transitioned.
Like so many of her classmates in the class of 1949, they were very generous in supporting the work of the Foundation over the years.
I could count on her like clockwork as she reached out to submit their annual donations.
Of course she shared many memories of our BTW heritage and history as. we would always
have our little “chats” each time.
I enjoyed the history & memories so much as we would talk for at least an hour.
I shall miss those days and her pleasant talks that we shared over the years as friends.
She has now slipped pass the surly boundaries of this earth to rest eternally with her loving Savior.
What a life of longevity she
shared with her family and friends who will miss her from our midst, but know that she is alright now, as she is “safe in His arms “.
Lovingly submitted.
My heartfelt condolences and prayers to Herbert, Rod and the entire family! Mrs Nelson was such a sweet lady and a joy to talk to. May God comfort and strengthen each of you during these difficult times!
Our sincere sympathy and condolences and prayers to the family and relatives and friends.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of my Soror and friend Vivian but am glad I had the good pleasure of fellowshipping and taking a picture with her during our chapter convention. We also spent many years together serving as members of the Richland County Education Association ( RCEA) and as delegates to SCEA and NEA Conventions. She was kind, caring and a true role model of mine. She will be missed. May she rest in peace.I am lifting her family and friends in prayer
I just found out that Mrs. Nelson has passed. She will truly be missed. She was a loving mother and grandmother. A vibrant member of her family. Mrs. Nelson was my next door neighbor for over 60 years! She was extremely supportive and loving to my family as well. My mother now resides in an Assisted Living Facility. This did not stop Mrs. Nelson from making periodic visits to her. She was such a sweet and gentle soul. She will never be forgotten, and will always be be in my heart.
Condolences to Herbert, Rod and family.

Mrs.Nelson was like my voice of reasoning when I was feeling overwhelmed with things. We spoke often checking on each other to how each were feeling.
