  1. I was so sorry to hear about Dorothea’s passing. I just found out today. I first met Doe when we were going to the Opportunity School together at just 16 years old. Also with Sis. Pat Anderson and the late Ora Cheeseboro. She was a beautiful person and we all had a wonderful time together. Also her grandmother use to keep one of my babies. I didn’t see her much but I will always remember her beautiful spirit and her laugh! Take you REST “Sister Doe” and you definitely will be missed! Sending love and prayers to your family. 🙏🩷🙏

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted”
    Matthew 5:4

Dorothea and I began our VA career journey together with the big 16 hire group 2002 at 1801 Assembly St.
Doe’s humor and positivity sustained us all during the one year trial period and continued throughout our VA careers. Doe was a quiet leader within the office providing a listening ear with wisdom to those who received her blessings.
I loved watching Doe light up when speaking of her family, she will be greatly missed.

  12. My heartfelt condolences to the family of Ms. Dorothea “Doe” Jennings. My heart hurts. Tears have fallen but I am assured that she is resting in the arms of The Lord. Doe and I worked on the same team at the Department of Veterans Affairs. Loved her. She was always a great worker and so much fun to be around. In so many ways, I copied her. I admired her. She had great style and I looked up to her like she was an older cousin. Learned so much from her. Her smile was infectious and I enjoyed being around her. She made working at the VA so much fun. I’ll always think of her and certainly will miss her dearly. Doe – Rest in Heavenly Peace.

  19. Doe played a significant role in my village during my childhood, and that influence carried into my adulthood. Despite her no-nonsense approach, she had a quick wit, a loving spirit, a positive attitude, and an infectious smile. No matter where I lived or worked in the country, she always kept in touch and would send “Doe-style” threats to ensure I visited my church home upon my return. Doe was like a mother and a big sister all rolled into one.

To the family, I say, ” Weep not, weep not. She is not dead. She’s only resting in the bosom of Jesus.”.

I am a firm believer that when we lose someone close to us, they continue to live on through us and give us unbelievable strength to carry on from day-to-day. The connection becomes an intimate part of us.
The book of Ecclesiastes 3:1 state that, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” We are never ahead or behind in life, but right where God wants us to be.
My prayers will continue to be with the family, friends and love ones during this difficult time.

Doe taught me the importance of having pride and excellence in the work we did to serve our nations Veterans. She refused to allow me to be mediocre and cheered me on as I climbed the ranks in VA leadership. I will never forget the impact she had on my life along with many others who cherish and loved her. 40. 15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words. 1 Thess 4:15-18

We pray the Lord Jesus will help comfort you with these words in your time of bereavement.

She was a dear friend who was always willing to help others in their time of need.

From the halls of the VA Columbia Regional Office to the dugout at the Earlwood Park softball field, we shared many fun and special times. Despite the medical challenges she endured after retiring, Doe remained a good-hearted, caring, and comical person, and I will truly miss her. In many of our conversations over the past year, I didn’t want to hear it, but Doe talked about being ready for the “Upper Room.” She expressed concern about the care of her brother if she was gone, but spoke with a sense of peace about being called from her earthly journey. Until we meet again…Sleep well, my friend!
