  5. My condolences to Rev. Austin, his children and extended family.

One word I can use to describe Mrs. Austin is humble. She demonstrated that humble heart when we moved into the cul-de-sac. My dad introduced himself as Reverend and retired missionary and she told us of the church and the ministries she and her husband led, however, because of the family atmosphere in the cul-de-sac where we all look out for each other, she had us neighbors refer to her as “Mrs” and not with her titles.

The other word I’d use is helpful. I’m forever grateful for the way that she (and her husband) helped me after my parents moved to start a church in Goose Creek. Although I was a grown adult with a teaching career, they still looked out for me.

Mrs. Austin had my code to the lockbox on my front door in case of any emergency. I remember once when I’d locked myself out the house and was trapped in my back yard because I had the wrong gate key, Mrs. Austin came home just to unlock my lockbox and hand me the key over the fence so I get back in the house to get the right key. Other times she picked up packages for me off my doorstep when I was on the road.

Mrs. Austin will be greatly missed and our little cul-de-sac will not be the same without her beautiful smile and big heart.

  21. We’ve known Dr. A since 2007 or 2008. She was an avid weekly participant in my aqua aerobics class, and we shared monthly brunch together. She even married us in 2013.
My husband, Clayton, performed comedy every year for the past seven or eight years at her Salad Fiesta.
We loved her, are very grateful to have known her and will miss her dearly.
