It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Ms. Tossie Ramona Williams Carr.
On behalf of all of us at Your Credit Union Partner, I want to express our deepest condolences to her family, friends, the Brookland Baptist Church family, and everyone at Brookland Federal Credit Union.
I had the privilege of working with Ms. Carr during Brookland Federal Credit Union’s strategic planning efforts and community development initiatives. She was a passionate advocate for the credit union’s mission and deeply believed in its role as a ministry of service to the members of Brookland Baptist Church and its community.
Ms. Carr understood that a credit union is about far more than financial transactions—it is about changing lives. Her leadership and unwavering commitment helped position Brookland Federal Credit Union to secure Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) grants that expanded affordable lending, financial education, and opportunities for lower-income families. During her years of service, the credit union successfully secured CDFI Technical Assistance grants in 2022 ($125,000) and 2024 ($300,000), building upon an earlier award in 2004. Those investments will continue to strengthen the credit union’s ability to serve members for years to come—a lasting legacy of her vision and dedication.
While her accomplishments are significant, I will remember Ms. Carr most for her heart. She cared deeply about people, asked thoughtful questions, and never lost sight of why the credit union existed: to improve the financial well-being of its members and community.
Her legacy will live on through the lives she touched, the institution she helped strengthen, and the opportunities that future generations of Brookland members will experience because of her faithful service.
Rest in peace, Ms. Carr. Thank you for your leadership, your compassion, and your unwavering commitment to serving others.

Ramona’s life was a blessing to so many. Through her love for her family, her commitment to serving her community, and her lifelong sisterhood as a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, she leaves behind a legacy of compassion, strength, and service that will continue to inspire others. Her influence will live on through her two sons and through everyone whose life was enriched by her kindness and generosity.

Our kids, met in first grade and we’re great friends all the way through college I used to watch my child run up to you as COCKY at every women’s Home games for five years sorry I didn’t know of your death until today unfortunately, I was taking To the hospital for emergency surgery for the same thing you had. You were ready; when you said to me “I have always lived my life striving to get up there”. Also emphatically saying “this world doesn’t owe you anything”. Mustard must have sensed everything. My condolences to the family for the loss of Ramona. I first met her in graduate school – what a sweet lady she was! I was blessed once again several years later when she was hired by the SC Vocational Rehabilitation Agency, where I was working. Her warm smile always lighted up the room when she entered, and I thoroughly enjoyed her friendship for the duration of my employment there. Rest in peace, dear friend!
To Darian and Braxton and the entire family. My deepest condolences goes out to you all. 💔 I met Ramona and the late Doug Williams through Albertha Noble Spears ( Bertha) years ago, when Darian was born. I knew your mom cared and loved both of her boys, so just know that your mom is at peace, God has it all in control, and she is in his hands. Mona (as some called her) made me a carrot cake early eighties, and I’ve have yet to find someone that can bake a cake like that. Ramona was one of the most caring and sweetest person you could meet. That soft spoken voice, loving and caring spirit was unimaginable. Take your rest Ramona. Rest in peace hun, until we meet again.❤️
Ramona we sat with you that Sunday and talked to you about the legacy you are leaving behind. You’ve poured so much love and knowledge into every life you touched. We met in 2015 and instantly became the best of friends. Many know me as your “Mini Me” and you were my “Seasoned Me”. I’m so thankful that God planned for our paths to cross. You was someone I needed in my life that I didnt know I needed. I will think about you and happy memories whenever it rains (because you loved the rain). Your two amazing boys (men) will continue to thrive because you did a great job and because you left them with an amazing village. Rose and Mama Maggie have that same village as well. My heart hurts because I want to call and text you but then there is a peace because you are no longer in pain. Until we meet again my good friend. And as you would always say “I love you more”.

I knew Ramona to be a happy and personable lady! We knew each other in adult education, but we lost touch. I recall interesting conversations, and I remember her with fondness.

Ramona, I miss you so much it hurts. We only got a year of being inseparable, but it feels like a lifetime, and I am so grateful to God that we finally crossed paths and became so close. You truly were the friend I didn’t know I needed, and I am so angry and heartbroken that our time was cut short. I wish we had more time together. Thank you for the endless love, insightful conversations, and the incredible food you blessed my boys with. You loved them like your own, always making sure VJ got his favorite meals, and we all benefited from your wonderful cooking and giant heart. To Darien and Braxton: Your mom loved you both fiercely. I am sending you my deepest condolences for this unimaginable loss. And to Ma Maggie: My heart completely breaks for you. To lose your beautiful daughter right after celebrating your 90th birthday is a pain no mother should have to bear. Ramona left an unforgettable mark on my family, and we will love and miss her every single day. Rest easy, my friend.

When I spoke to you a couple weeks ago, your voice was strong and you sounded as if you were @ peace. I remember, you saying to me, “I’m fine and I will do whatever the Lord wants me to do “! Well Babe, he told you it was time for you to rest. You are no longer in pain, and you have entered the pearly gates of heaven; and you are now resting. My family will always love and miss you. Braxton and Darien – I never had a conversation with your mother that y’all did not come up and that smile appeared. Being a mother to her was her most precious role. I got to know her through working on a project that made it possible for people with different learning abilities to be part of the mainstream community. Through that we also became friends and everyday life. No mountain was too high, no cause was too little.
It was sudden, but we are blesses she is at peace now. In her honor a star will be named after her…. So watch out boys, when you look at the skies at night remember your mom is looking down at you, caring for you, and giving you that look in case you aren’t doing something a tad right. But most of all she’ll be shining bright so you can find her whenever you need her.

Dear my beloved Sister. Loving you for 46 years was so easy to do. God gave me you. We have always been there for each other. Holding each other’s hand. You gave me your firstborn son. But together we raised both of your handsome sons. You were something special. This is what you would say so proudly. God gave me a Village of people. And they love me! Ramona. You knew that everything was alright, so early Monday morning you took that flight. I was prepared but I wasn’t ready. My heart is broken into pieces. I’m trying to wrap my mind around it all. Rest well my Sister my friend. Until we meet again. We loved each other like we do rain. 🌧️
